What's your idea?

I’d like to help facilitate collaboration and consensus building in the discussions happening in Drupal Issue queue. To me, what makes Drupal community strong is that they rely on community consensus for making a lot of decisions. I’m a PhD student in Computer Science at the University of Illinois. For the past two years I've been studying how the discussions unfold in Drupal's issue queue and how decisions are made. I am impressed with the way that the community members collaborate to build a better Drupal, but my studies have shown that half of the discussions do not reach consensus. The goal of my research project is to bring a stronger form of consensus building to the discussions in Drupal. As part of this project, I've designed and implemented an add-on for Drupal issue queue, which is called Procid: https://github.com/albaloo/procid-client/blob/master/UsageScenarios.md

Give Procid a try! Please download the procid.user.js file ( You may need to right click and then “Save link as…” to get the file)

You can follow these instructions to install Procid on Chrome: https://raw.github.com/albaloo/procid-client/master/screenshots/procid-c...

I’ll encourage you to install Procid and try it in the discussions you are currently participating.

What are the benefits?

The two main benefits of the features proposed in Procid are:
- Increasing Situational Awareness: Procid helps community members to understand the current status of the discussion, the ideas that have been proposed so far, key points of agreements and disagreements, and the criteria for evaluating the ideas.
- Decreasing confusions and conflict: Procid extracts significant bits of the discussion and helps community members to understand each other's points.

What are the risks?

-The system offers a variety of features that might take time to learn and get used to.
-For Procid to show its usefulness everyone in the discussion should use it.

How can we measure the impact of this idea? (metrics)

The new design should help the discussions improve in the following ways:
- There will be more focused and unique ideas in the discussions.
- There will be less points of confusions.
- It would be much easier to join an ongoing discussion with a lot of comments.

Who directly benefits from / will use this improvement? (target audiences)

Drupal Community.

Are additional resources available for discovery/implementation? (volunteer effort, financial backing, etc.)

I have implemented my ideas as a Javascript add-on and I will continue improving it based on the feedback I will receive from Drupal community.
