Working with 1.6

Hello All,
I have just finished installing OpenPublish 1.6 into a sandbox on one of my sites so I can play around in it, and it's looking pretty good! I found O.P. a few days ago and have been playing with it heavily as I finish a business plan for a new news site I am organizing.

The only area I believe O.P is lacking in is the amount of Documentation. I know that this is most likely due to factors such as lack of funds, or time, as running an open source project such as this takes quit a bit of both. However, I believe even some simple(r) things, such as a highly detailed listing of the modules included, and what their purpose is would be a good tool for those who are newer. I especially would like a more detailed overview of the Contexts module, and how it is implemented. I also believe the solr search is a new implementation...

I will do my best to post some simple guides, and perhaps a complete write-up after my site is done.

Thanks
Devon

Fantastic!

I've just had my first look around OpenPublish (1.6) and am greatly impressed. Thanks and kudos to all involved in this implementation; without doubt, the slickest distribution I've encountered.

One query: there is a huge range of empty taxonomy vocabularies. Someones put a lot of thought into this, but are they simply suggestive? Are they used in any of the other modules? Or can they be deleted at will? Sorry if that sounds a bit thick, but the distribution is mainly content-less, yet so many vocabularies...

Thank you for your kind words. Much appreciated.

CraftyDavon,

we are definitely lacking in the documentation, but we do realize the importance of adequate documentation and have people working on it as we speak. It's definitely at the top of our priorities.

John,

the large number of vocabularies are pre-set Calais vocabularies. The automated entity (terms) extraction tool OpenCalais, that provides Semantic enrichment of the content for OpenPublish, needs those to properly categorize extracted tags into entity types like: Person, Country, City etc. The vocabularies are mostly used by Calais and you don't have to worry about them if you don't want to. We moved them to a separate tab on the node edit from, so they don't get in your way.

It's not installing for me

pkcho's picture

For some reason, I can't get OP 1.6 to install. I'm using MAMP and have increased the max execution time and the php memory limit and max input time.

I've gotten as far as putting in the database information and then when it goes to install it does not show me the progress bar and eventually times out.

Obviously, it works because the rest of you have it running. What am I doing wrong? : (

Thanks,
Joe

Not sure what's happening but...

I recommend changing from MAMP to the DAMP — http://acquia.com/documentation/acquia-drupal-stack

It seems to do a few things under the bonnet that suit Drupal in particular. It might solve your problem and is certainly HUGELY better at helping to handle multi-site and multiple code base installations. V. cool.

I used it to install OP, having first used it as part of an Acquia Drupal installation.

The Acquia stack installer worked!

Hello JBC,

The Acquia stack installer worked perfectly for me. Great advice! Thank you.

I would say to increase your

I would say to increase your execution time to 3600 or more.

You should definitely look in

You should definitely look in Apache logs for the virtual host. There must be some error there, since this does not sound normal. New installer should not be timing out. Feel free to post the error message here, if you track it down.
