I am using the latest 32bit Mercury AMI, and I get this error message most of the times I log out. Please help.

Fatal error: session_start() [function.session-start]: Failed to initialize storage module: user (path: /var/lib/php5) in /var/www/pressflow/includes/bootstrap.inc on line 1550

Reproducing

toemaz's picture

In order to reproduce this, what is the instance size you use?

I'm using the small instance

I'm using the small instance size.

If I log in and log right out, it seems normal. but if I stayed logged in for awhile, and try logging out I get the error. Let me try to find out if I can reproduce this error consistently. Btw, www.airsoftpx.com is my website if you want to try it there.

Inconsistent

I've seen this come up in a few different contexts, but have not been able to reliably reproduce it either. Would love to get a grip on the issue though, as it's quite annoying.

These two bug reports might be of interest. (Disclaimer: I'm yet to use Mercury :) ). What version of PHP is the AMI using?

Also I wonder if this is related / the same bug (i.e it is Pressflow/memcache) https://bugs.launchpad.net/pressflow/+bug/422546

My scenario appeared to be same as comment#6 posted by Erik.

I am using almost the same setup 32bit Mercury small instance, however I replaced pressflow with a standard Aegir and use pressflow for the platforms. I have not noticed this error message yet and my instance has been up 467 Hrs with tons of log in/out.

I wonder why ive not seen it yet.. im not using aggressive/external cache just yet though, ill give that a test when I get a spare moment. Perhaps some of the system tweaks performed when I installed Aegir may have prevented the issue too .. I dunno.

Has everyone else seen this issue sporadically? That bug report Mig posted above seems to fit really well, at least the symptoms do.

Does this help?

I think I can reproduce the problem consistently. I can log out just fine, when I am on a non secure section on the website (http), but when I am on a secure section of the website (https) and try to log out I get this error.

Having this same exact issue.

Having this same exact issue. http logout fine -- https logout generates above error. Have you (or anybody else) tracked down a fix?

Edit: Found this that worked for me:

installed civicrm and this started happening

badgerlake's picture

haven't dug into it, but ever since i installed civicrm i get this same behavior.

For what it's worth, this

For what it's worth, this also occurs for me in Pressflow on a non-mercury install (i.e a regular Debian Lenny VPS running at Linode).

So it's a Pressflow specific issue and was apparently fixed on the 5th by David Strauss, according to that ticket.
