Can't get past first page

boris mann's picture

I couldn't get past the first page: it keeps telling me "this question requires an answer" for every questions, even though I have some checked.

You may have this on later questions, but I'd like to see some questions / feedback on the use and usefulness of this groups site. Also, groups vs. developer mailing list vs. forums might be interesting, too...

Multiple answers

Apparently for some questions - like the one Boris refers to - one can only pick one answer. It should allow for multiple selection.

Survey comments

ChrisKennedy's picture

It would be easiest if the survey were posted as a wiki that we could directly edit. Nevertheless here is a 10-minute review.

[General]
* All answer choices should have the initial word capitalized imo.
* Many of the answer choices have dangling commas at the end.
* Making all questions mandatory invites bad data - respondents should be able to skip questions if they prefer.
* Answer choices inconsistently end with periods.

[Section 1]
Q2 - Needs some minimum answer, such as "Once a week /or less/." Extra comma on one answer choice.

Q3 - The ordering of these answer choices is hard to understand. It seems to be combining visit length with purpose of visit in a haphazard way.

[Section 2]
Q1 - extra space before the question mark

The answers for this question need a lot of work/consolidation. It's too jumbled and unclear what they mean.

"queue up RSS feeds in my reader for anything I find useful" -> This does not answer the question of what is "useful" about drupal.org; RSS should be a separate question or section.

"Lend a hand to those who are repeating my mistakes" -> the "repeating my mistakes" part adds a disincentive to select this answer choice and it also begs the question of what someone would choose if they are lending a hand to others without making mistakes on their own.

"Flip through the paying work forum" -> this is worded strangely, especially the "flip through" construct. Something like "Find paid development work" might be more direct.

"Stopped going to documentation because of confusion" -> this doesn't even make sense in the context of the question.

"Get questions answered" -> This seems to be the same as "Search for answers"

"Follow up on previous contributions to forums or issues, to keep abreast of my issues" -> I would just remove this choice, as it's a recursive answer. It doesn't answer the question of what the initial goal was.

"find some type of module to do what I need" -> "Explore contributed modules"

Q2/Q3 - These questions are just a big mess that should have already been edited. I would change the design from two separate easy/hard questions, to a bunch of small questions (matrix/table) with a Likert scale of difficulty (very easy, easy, neutral, hard, very hard, n/a).

[Section 3]
Also a mess. At the very least you will want a few free response questions for a large volume of data.

Questions like:
1. What do you like most about drupal.org?
2. What do you like least about drupal.org?
3. What comments, if any, do you have on the design and administration of this survey?

Moved survey into a wiki page

Hi Chris, thanks for going through the first draft.

I have moved all the questions into a wiki-page, so you can edit directly. I have closed the survey for now and will update it once people get a chance to update it.

Cheers,
Kieran

Thanks Kieran, I made some revisions to it directly.

Would you mind elaborating a bit on the purpose/goals of the survey? This will help in understanding what other questions should be added. In the mean time I'll think about it some more and try to come up with other questions to ask.

Old thread but ... is there a followup to this? Was the survey useful? Would be very interested in re-running with similar questions.
