OpenPublish upgrades vs Drupal upgrades?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

As I understand it OP is going to 2.0 in a relatively short time. This begs a question for me that I haven't seen answered.
There are two forms of upgrade that I potentially see. They are, OP itself, and the Drupal core. So:

  1. When the drupal core changes, do we wait for the next OP update, or do we go ahead and update with the new Drupal core? For example, right now I have a notice in the reports section that the 6.15 version of Drupal is ready and should be used. OP is I believe, version 6.14.

  2. Or, do we wait for each update of OP to take care of that? For example, will version 1.7, the next update to come, be on Drupal 6.15?, Or, 6.16 etc. if that comes first?

  3. What about Drupal 7.0? Any plans for that yet?

  4. Same question for the modules, both Drupal modules and those used specifically for OP?

you can update the drupal core as well as any and all the modules as mentioned here. Then run update.php and you should b done.

All OpenPublish components

All OpenPublish components are intentionally hosted on Drupal.org so you can benefit from regular Drupal update process (and notifications). You do not need to wait for new OP release to come out in order to update Drupal components. You should treat OpenPublish installation as any other Drupal installation.

The only problem may arise if you update a module that has been patched. We try our best to minimize those, but sometimes it's just inevitable. The latest list of modules that has been patched can be obtained, at any time, from the drush make file of the installation profile (search for keyword: "patch"):

http://drupalcode.org/viewvc/drupal/contributions/profiles/openpublish/o...

Currently following modules are patched:
admin
login destination
acquia_search

Generally, we will try to release a new build if there's a significant (e.g. security) update to a patched module, to minimize headache on OP users. Feel free to update any other modules and core, just like you would update them on any other Drupal site (considering usual testing and caution is given to update, of course).
