About Greater Los Angeles Drupal

With several weekly and monthly events, the Greater Los Angeles Area is one the most active areas for Drupal in the world.

Formerly named Downtown Los Angeles Drupal, we've been meeting regularly in and around Downtown Los Angeles, California, since early 2010, and now organize a large number of events in the area. Our signature events include the Greater Los Angeles Drupal Camp (GLADCamp, the Drupal Job Fairs and the Downtown Drupal, San Gabriel Valley Drupal, Hollywood Drupal and High Performance Drupal meetups.

Our members and organizers have produced hundreds of Drupal events, including job fairs, meetups and workshops, conferences, paid trainings, coworking days, study group sessions, movie outings, FREE tutoring sessions from Drupal professionals, and website barnraisings to benefit non-profits and members of our community.

Attending Drupal events in the Greater Los Angeles Area is one of the best ways to meet and talk with other Drupaleros and we encourage you to attend as many meetings and special events as you'd like. Whether it's to find solutions to problems you've been having, sharing something you've learned or just meeting interesting like-minded people, the Greater Los Angeles Drupal events are an essential resource for Drupal professionals and hobbyists alike.

If you aren't already a member of Greater Los Angeles Drupal, it's easy to join our community. Our community calendar is on our "Events" tab on our home page at http://groups.drupal.org/node/219129

We proudly participate in the California Drupal Travelers Program, which aims to connect businesses and community members who are visiting the area with our local community and events. Inquire within by contacting any of the Greater Los Angeles Drupal organizers, or by joining the global Drupal Hospitality Network.

Hi,
As I stated before I need to leave a 8:00 but will try to tune into the video conference. My mother-in-law has been having some health concerns so we are quite busy right now, so may not be able to tune in.

Ideas for DrupalCon LA activities

pcoleman's picture

Things we can research for DrupalCon:
* Research a bus trip from the convention center to the Getty. Admission is free, if we could find an affordable bus trip for Monday afternoon or Friday would be a good event for the families. Great art and botanical gardens. Been there several times, but you want several hours to enjoy. The Getty Villa is much smaller but it on the beach for those that want it. I have not been to this site, Greek and Roman art is not my idea of fun.

  • At drupalcon Portland they offered a transit pass as part of the package. We could research getting a special rate for a metro pass. Then attendees could walk out of the convention center and catch a bus or walk a couple blocks to jump a train to Hollywood Highland, China Town, Old Town Pasadena or other venues in Los Angeles.

  • I like Christefano's idea of a a site and app on things to do in LA. Many will have heard of Hollywood, or Disneyland etc. but do not know how to get there or what to do.

  • Exposition Park would be another Family friendly site with pretty easy access from the convention center.

Transit directions

Google maps has the best transit directions I've run into for LA. They are easier to use, & give comprehensive info on what lines to use. You can get similar info off of metro.net (more 'official' LA bus information, but you have to know where you want to go (not something I'd expect of first-time conferencers in LA).

I think LA put in special lines to take people to special destinations during some events like World Cup & Olympics when they were in LA: I'd be surprised if such weren't available (for such things as Disneyland, Hollywood, Getty Center, USC, UCLA) during Drupalcon.

Demographic?

fejn's picture

Paul,
How many of the people coming to Drupalcon might be coming with family? Or were you thinking of people coming to Drupalcon, staying with an extended family, & so looking for 'family friendly' events? (From personal ignorance) I'd suspect that a lot of the people coming to the convention might be younger, not yet attached to family.

Transit pass

fejn's picture

Having LA offer a transit pass for Drupalcon attendees is a great idea. My guess is that they could offer a special event TAP card for about $10 (good for the duration of the convention (or about 4-5 days). LA being much bigger than Portland, this would solve a lot of problems with using public transit in LA, like having to have exact change for riding the bus.

Overview of Resources

New Sponsors

To many to mention, but one sticks out:

  • Zoom conference for up to 25 people

Event Schedule for 2014

Quarterly event schedule using BarCamp – "last minute" community driven event - structure

  • August 1-3, 2014 – Drupal Commerce Camp
  • September 7 & 8 – DrupalCamp LA Irvine
  • Drupal Design Camp - 4th Quarter
  • GLADCamp - 1st Quarter 2015
