Hi all,
Firstly a very Happy New Year to you all!
I'd like to get the Drupal Brighton meetings up and running again and I need your feedback.
I've been reading about how Drupal Atlanta are organising their 2010 meetings (http://www.mediacurrent.com/blogs/best-practices-planning-your-2010-drup...) and would like to follow what they're doing.
Atlanta meet every third Tuesday which we might as well do as Tuesdays at http://theskiff.org are the 'BrightArray' software meetups, so the format would be something along the lines of this:
7-8pm general networking
8-9pm tutorial/demonstration + questions
9pm+ member site showcasing or networking/pub
One of the points on the Atlanta blog was that knowing what was planned for each month helped more people attend, so below I've drafted a list of each month and a topic. It's more-or-less the same as the Atlanta one, but the first two changed as I don't know about the particular topics.
WHAT I NEED FROM YOU:
Please let me know:
- what you think about this idea/approach in general
- what you think of the topics
- whether you think you'd come to any of the meetings
- whether you'd like to speak about a particular topic (please don't make me do all of them lol!)
- whether you'd like a particular topic to be spoken about.
They're also running a Drupalcamp Atlanta, it would be great to do a Drupalcamp Brighton so I've kept that in the calendar.
Once we've confirmed the list I'll set up the events on upcoming etc. and post to BNM/BFL/etc.
CALENDAR:
January - An intro to Panels3
February - OpenAtrium Overview
March - Best Practices for Setting up a Drupal Development Environment
April - Drupalcon debriefing w/panel and moderator
May - Drupal 7 Preview - Whats New?
June - Theming - How to Make Your Drupal Site Look Amazing
July - Drupal SEO Tips and Best Practices
August - Content Administration w/Drupal
September - Drupalcamp Brighton? (no meetup)
October - Module Development 101
November - Running a Drupal Based Consultancy
December - Case Study Showcase and/or Holiday Party
I look forward to seeing some/all of you soon!
Happy Drupaling,
Steve

Hi Steve, I think this is a
Hi Steve,
I think this is a very good idea and am surprised you haven't had more feedback over the past few days. I am very keen to come to these monthly meetups. Though I have drupaling for just less than a year I would be happy to put myself forward to speak about a topic, as I feel I've taken a lot from the community and so far given very little back.
Thanks,
Nolan.
That would be great!
Hi Nolan,
It will be great to see you again, and would welcome a talk/workshop from yourself!
Have a think about what topic - I remember you were doing something interesting with google maps, or perhaps your first year's experience of Drupaling, or whatever you're interested in...
Hi, I would be happy to do
Hi,
I would be happy to do either. We can dicsuss it further on Tuesday. See you then.
Nolan.
Cool
Cool - see you then!
This sounds great
You might even tempt me out for these. The topics sound great, can we have Best Practices for Setting up a Drupal Development Environment sooner please!
The topics sound great. I can contribute a short presentation on the basics of module development, it really is the basics though, I prepared it for a group of people who knew very little about Drupal so you would probably be looking for something more advanced.
Martin.
That would be great too!
Hi Martin,
I see you signed up for next Tuesday - will be great to meet you!
A talk/workshop on basic module development would be great - let's chat next week. I'm loving using the module builder module, creates nice skeletons.
I also see from your tweets we are fellow HTC Hero owners - good choice!
See you then,
Signing up
I think this is a great idea Steve. I can't make next Tuesday, but will aim to make others.
I couldn't see a sign-up link - perhaps you could re-post. I'm not too concerned about the topics, as I guess these will develop as the group does, but many look interesting - esp. setting up a dev. environment. Thanks!
Excellent!
Excellent - look forward to seeing you at one!
The signup is on the upcoming event page here:
http://upcoming.yahoo.com/event/5220892
I hate upcoming, but it seems that's where everyone in Brighton is until something better comes along, so I put it on there to get max coverage.
Thanks
Thanks for your replies guys - I was wondering where everyone was for a minute!
I've realised that the first meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday so I'll do a post on the BNM/BFL etc. and get things going when I get a mo, and let's discuss the rest of the schedule here and at the meeting.
Busy week this week so excuse the shortness of my reply!
Thanks for coming along & plans for February
Thanks to all who came along to the Panels workshop the other week, had a great time! Hope you all managed to learn something from it, and it was great to see Drupalers and non-Drupalers alike understanding the Panels interface!
February's workshop is down as OpenAtrium overview. There should be a new version out of OpenAtrium by then so will be good to demo that. One major part of OpenAtrium is 'Features' which is a way of packaging up settings, content types, views, etc. into groups which also works well as a deployment method rather than having to retrace your steps when putting stuff live.
If everyone's happy I'll do the same as we did last time - we'll be upstairs at http://theskiff.org as there's an iPhone app meetup downstairs.
Let me know your views...
Sorry to have missed it Can I
Sorry to have missed it
Can I confirm the next one is happening on 16th Feb?
Every Third Tuesday
No worries - yes indeed, every third Tuesday so will indeed be 16th Feb.
See you there!
.... sounds good. see you
.... sounds good. see you then.
nolan.
Making the next workshop a little earlier - 6pm-7.30pm
I'm going to move the event to 6pm - 7.30pm as it seems there's lots of other events on third tuesdays which a) may stop people coming to the Drupal workshop; and b) I may want to go to ;)
A fine example is http://geekwinething.org.uk/ which I've always wanted to go to so I've booked a ticket for 16th...
Hope this fits in ok with everyone, do speak up if it's an issue....
It's a bit early for me
I would almost certainly be late, getting from West Worthing to Brighton at that time will take a while.
Martin.
Not good for me either as
Not good for me either as need to deal with children...7.30 was ideal!
Hmmm....
Hmmm.... OK, seems this is unpopular!
How about this month someone else present then at 7.30pm?
I was supposed to be presenting on OpenAtrium and features but a) the new version of openatrium is still not out yet and b) I haven't had chance to figure out how features work
Any takers?
How late?
If it's 6-7.30 then I imagine we'll start the workshop/demo bit at 6.30pm - is that a bit better?
I'm sure others will be there after 7.30pm, just trying to fit in numerous things...
