Seamless Import/Export of Blog Entries to Drupal

Overview:
Users who wish to synchronize or move blog entries from Blogger to Drupal or vice versa can now do it seamlessly without uploading any file. This module just requires minimal details from the user and it connects directly to the blog for content transfer.

Description:
As Blogger have a huge database of users. There would definitely be a bulk of users who will eventually get their own webhost. Therefore, users with years/months of blog entries in Blogger might want to import their entries over to Drupal. On the other hand, users with a current Drupal blog/stories might want to have a separate blog on Blogger, thus they would need to export their Drupal entries over.

The most interesting group of people are those that maintain 2 blogs. The user might have a blog selling gadgets and the other blog rants about his work life. Eventually, it might be troublesome and tiring to update 2 blogs, so he might want to just combine them into 1 single blog. The user now needs a tool to synchronize the 2 blogs and resolve the conflicts.

Let me present to you my solution. A module which allows the user to:

• Import blog entries from Blogger to Drupal (story/blog).
• Export Drupal blog/story entries to Blogger.
• Synchronize blog entries between Blogger with Drupal (story/blog).
• Accomplish all of the above without any intermediate file.

There is currently no easy workaround to import from Blogger entries to Drupal, a discussion in http://drupal.org/node/2450 has mentioned that most people are now going one big round to do the import, via importing Blogger to Wordpress and then to Drupal. I hope that my solution would fasten the process and do it in a seamless way without any intermediate files.

Timeline:
May 6 – May 23

• Learn Drupal 7 API, jQuery, Blogger API.
• Do practical code tryouts using the above 3 APIs.
• Decide on the filtering options and settings for Import, Export and Synchronize.
• Plan and design the user interface.

May 24 – June 7

• Code the part for importing blog entries from Blogger to Drupal.
• Do unit testing for this import feature.

June 8 – June 22

• Code the part for exporting Drupal blog/story entry to Blogger.
• Do unit testing for this export feature.

June 23 – July 11

• Code the last part of the project, synchronizing Drupal and Blogger entries.
• Do unit testing for this synchronizing feature.

July 12

• Submit mid-term evaluation.

July 12 – July 23

• Bug bashing – Find out as many bugs as possible, and record them. I would also release the project slightly earlier to the Drupal community to get feedback from them.
• Fix the bugs.
• Clean up and improve code + comments.

July 24 – August 8

• Create user guide and developer guide.
• Code review and improve code quality.

August 9 – August 15

• Polish user and developer guides.
• Package it for installation.
