Fitness is something that is just as required as eating & sleeping because that's the stuff for the long haul.
Sometimes it's just 5 or 10 minutes lifting a small amount of weight, jump rope, whatever - just don't get skunked
(i.e.: if it's an "exercise day" - do SOMEthing.)
A quick set standing behind my desk works, and sometimes that's all the time work permits...
Why not take a run early in the morning, before work has a chance to interfere? Early in the morning when air is misty and the grass is covered with dew/Drupals?
Numerous studies show an increase in productivity for those that take exercise breaks at work.
Totally counterintuitive but true.
I deal with educating people in this every day and so many so they just don't have time. What they don't realize is that if they exercises they would.
Zig Ziglar said decades ago "5 minutes of exercise will get you 15 minutes of productivity"
Turns out to be true. Case studies have proven a net increase in productivity if time is taken out during the day to exercise.
Some of the most successful people I know put in a few miles at the pool or on the track in the middle of their workday.
Being healthy is the best way to create better code and beat the deadline. Some workplace may consider it as dedication if you stay up all night, but, honestly, most of the time, staying up all night is not productive at all. Your body is just not made to perform at peak 24 hours a day. It needs to recuberate. Add a portion of rest in your fitness routine will do wonders.
I always make a Fitness oriented New Year Resolutions. Try a simple goal, at first. And try something more challenging the next year, as my fitness level improves.
This year I'm working up to 100 Push-ups. Based on http://www.hundredpushups.com/, an schedule for 4-5 sets of push-ups, done 3 times a week. I do each set during the commercials of the evening news. There is very little bouncing involved, so you can do it after a lite meal.
I found it important set goals to motivate myself. I usually make a mid-year adjustment (ex Half-marathon instead of a Full 26). And target a different muscle groups each year.

Work is my worst culprit
When there's a deadline sometimes I get tunneled. Need to work on that.

I've started coming into work an hour early, taking an extra hour for lunch, and spending that hour at the gym.

Boundaries. Iron fist rules
Boundaries. Iron fist rules that time x is allocated to health no matter who is screaming at you regarding deadlines.
It's very counter intuitive, but since I implemented that rule, I've been better at hitting deadlines.
