I just tagged an official release for the new 5.x-2.x series of gallery module after almost 7 months of development and testing. You can download the module and read the release notes at http://drupal.org/node/194709. I'd really love to receive feedback on the new design and functionality, so please comment here.
We started to create a comprehensive handbook for the module in the Gallery codex. Please people join in and help to write and improve the wiki pages, especially the subpages on the module's Configuration options. An issue to coordinate the task can be found at http://drupal.org/node/187157. Any help on documentation and support would be greatly appreciated :)
Now that 5.x-2.0 is out and Drupal 6 is getting closer to the first release candidate I'm heavily working on the Drupal 6 version of gallery module, that will ship with some exciting new features. I will post an article on plan for D6 in the next days (as time permits), but here is a list of some new features already:
- Generic blocks
We will no longer distinguish image and grid blocks (will be just an option) and it will be possible to include any G2 block (exif info, rating, ...) in Drupal - Set Drupal AND G2 theme for embedded gallery pages
- Multiroot support
This will be used in a new gallery_og module (see http://drupal.org/node/187747), that simply allows each group to maintain an individual gallery - Extensive use of drupal_alter() hook to allow modules to modify various parameters ...
- Gallery Content module for tighter integration (see http://drupal.org/node/138400). This will obviously take some time to complete ;)
- ...

G2 module feedback
I am creating a new site and used your G2 module to integrate G2 into Drupal 5.x. The first time through, I had problems. I was new to Drupal and simply made a mess of things as I played, tested, learned, etc. I then dropped my G2 and Drupal databases, started from scratch installing both, and everything went in clean. I was able to theme both to integrate really seamlessly. Really nice work you did integrating Gallery2 into Drupal. My first time through I missed the critical step of configuring the URL Rewrite into .htaccess so I was getting question marks instead of pictures, and I could not navigate into modules. I got it right the second time.
Feel free to go to my site (still under construction) and poke around. I'd love to get some feedback. We hope to go live in Jan '08.
