Hi,
Just wondering what graphics software you use for creating and editing images on your sites. I used to use Fireworks but the version I had isn't compatible with the version of OSX I'm now on. Its quite expensive to upgrade so I'm looking for an alternative.
I have tried GIMP but it is soooo frustrating ! If GIMP is worth persevering with then I'll invest time in online tutorials etc but at the moment, I'd rather pay for something more intuitive than shout at my mac every time I use GIMP!
I liked Fireworks because you could edit photos as well as do vector graphics ... some packages I've been looking at do one or the other, or do some aspects.
What do you use ?
Thanks!
Jackie

What Graphics Package do you use?
Hi
GIMP but I just use it for resizing and cropping and the occassional collage so I am not doing anything overly advanced. I use BIMP to batch process some images before working with them in GIMP.
For me free makes it a winner.
Adobe Photoshop

GIMP
I found some great GIMP tutorials on youtube ... making good progress.
I think I'll give GIMP a fair go!

Yep, nothing beats Adobe products even though it's expensive. But if you are looking for something free, i heard Inkscape is meant to be quite good too but not tried it http://www.inkscape.org/ It's supposed to be similar to to Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw and Freehand.
Or why not Photoshop element http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopelmac/

GIMP is free but its UI is like having your hands run through cheesegraters. But hey it's free!
GIMP is only free...
...if your time is worthless.
Any money that you save by using GIMP will be spent many times over through hours of fighting a losing battle against a totally unintuitive UI.

I find the Gimp unbearable. I can tolerate Inkscape, works quite well for icon work, even.
I use Pixelmator
It isn't as hefty as Photoshop but it does open PSDs and keep the layers/groups. Works very well for me as a lightweight graphics person. At £39 pounds it isn't free/cheap but still a really good value for the money IMHO.

Thanks for all the
Thanks for all the suggestions.
I have been battling on (and making good progress) with GIMP.
However, a recent experience where the designer's PSD file was not being interpreted correctly but I guess that's going to happen with any package that's not Photoshop.
GIMP
I've started teaching a course in my college wusing GIMP and Aptana Studio. It's going rather well, considering the group itself.
I must say, I'm warming up to it. It does require to think, observe and plan a lot, rather than just rely on quick effects in PS.
