Next Meeting?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Just wondering if there has been any discussion on the next meeting, seems like it's been a while since there has been any activity.

If we need a place, I can volunteer our offices which our located near Downtown Denver. Map.

Anyway, just trying to kick around some talk of another meeting.

Thanks,
Brad

I've been thinking it's been a while since we've all gotten together. I think another meeting would be a great idea.

I'd be into it :) In fact I think it would be great to aim for regular meetings.

I'd love to have a regular meeting schedule. I can easily reserve the space at Denver Open Media (7th and Kalamath) for a year or more if we have a consistent meeting day / time.

That's not a bad idea, but I

That's not a bad idea, but I like the idea of having the location switch back and forth between Boulder and Denver - pingVision would probably love to host more meetings, especially so we can show off neat things we've found.

But the idea of having odd-numbered meetings in Boulder and Even-numbered meetings in Denver isn't a bad one.

I loved it when we were rotating back and forth between Denver & Boulder.

Meetup planned for Boulder in December

We're planning on hosting a meetup in Boulder. We don't have a set date yet. I wouldn't want that to preclude a Denver meetup, since November seemed to slip by without one.

Hey DBUG'ers!

I recently relocated to the Denver area and would love to meet other Drupal'ers here. I just took a gig as the Director of Web Development for GenGreen (http://www.gengreen.org). GenGreen isn't running Drupal (yet!), but I'm going to take a serious look at moving the publishing and social network parts of the site to Drupal 6 after more of the user contributed modules are updated.

My previous gig was as the Integrated Media Coordinator for Reynolds School of Journalism where I developed OurTahoe.org (http://www.ourtahoe.org). In addition to developing that site, I developed the Promise module (http://drupal.org/project/promise) and took over maintaining the TinyMCE module (http://drupal.org/project/tinymce).

I live in Denver and work in Ft. Collins so I'm up for getting together in either Denver or Boulder, but as everyone else is already saying... regularly scheduled meetings are preferred.

Kevin,

I would love to chat with you about TinyMCE at the next meetup - as I'm sure Laura would as well :) Welcome to Denver.

TinyMCE

This would make a great meeting topic: demo, configuration, other related modules, common problems, etc.

TinyMCE is what it is, but I can help you with that

I'd be glad to help people with their TinyMCE issues, but I'd rather do a "State of WYSIWYG" presentation.

Looking forward I think people need to start looking to the library agnostic WYSIWYG module (http://drupal.org/project/wysiwyg). I think TinyMCE is the best of some bad options when it comes to WYSIWYG and the only way to really improved TinyMCE can't be done within the module, but requires using a version of the TinyMCE itself (the download from Moxiecode) that has been customized for Drupal the way WordPress customizes TinyMCE for WordPress. As many of you know, that violates the "strict" policy of no 3rd party code in Drupal's CVS.

Moxiecode gave some key developers a sneak peak at their next generation release based on their commercial work, but then didn't include much of that in the 3.0 release that's now in beta.

If you're already using TinyMCE, stick with it... but IMHO new projects should avoid getting tied to a specific javascript library to provide WYSIWYG support. I think it's inevitable that Drupal will eventually include WYSIWYG editor, but it will likely be a jQuery based solution that leverages the javascript that has already been included in the core.

I think this sounds like a solid meeting topic to me. There was a lot of discussion about rich text editors at the last meeting, both from newcomers being introduced to the idea, as well as more seasoned developers giving input on what their current rich text editors of choice are. I think it sounds reasonable to cover this topic in more depth, from what's out there, the strengths and weaknesses of each, as well as what to look to in the future.

If there is a need or interest, I can talk a bit about a google maps related module i've been developing as well.

Denver DBUG meeting

Hello all ... the Denver meeting would have been on Thanksgiving and as such, it was skipped.

There has been some talk about switching up the day from Thursday to a different day of the week.

Please see the two polls that I put up for everyone to take a vote on which day is best for them.

NOTE ... I mistyped the Boulder week number, it should be FIRST week.

Everyone please vote and let us know about your preferences.

See you soon ... Paul
