Please don't kill this in bureaucracy and complicated systems

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I just read through this group - and I'm thrilled.
After having "played around" with Drupal on various pet projects for the past four years, I'm now moving to become a full time Social Media consultant here in Denmark, and plan to base most of my work on Drupal. I've been working with computer media for my entire professional career (since 1992), and I'm really looking forward to this.

I do have one concern though. This initiative could be bogged down in "boards", rules, regulations, headquarters, minutes, etc.
I have seen this happen with international communities on more than one occation. Keep it simple - if at all possible. Don't build too much structure, but stick to a few clear rules, roles, and best practices.

I'm currently working on a similar project in Denmark - connecting with the danish Drupal community, and building a "show case" site - which will present Drupal in a pleasant way to clients, list danish developers and consultants, and list a number of good case stories.

I'm looking forward to see this initiative grow and thrive.

Hi, no bureaucracy

Hi Gunnar,

Yeup, no bureaucracy here, this group is serving two important purposes here,
1. Shout it out what you know about developing an Online Marketplace
2. Lets devise a business model

The business model work definitely looks too extensive, but remember, when the business actually starts, most of the complications are translated into code and are just managing the process that was mapped through the business model in the planning stages.

Look at yourself now, your enthusiasm and Drupal community participation from Denmark puts you in a prime position to lead the initiatives branch in your country, plus the localized version (Danish) of the portal, not only you use your profound Drupal skills, thus, you add value to the process while benefit the community at the same time. Its a matter of understanding what is being built here, if it was a simple marketplace, why didn't it emerge before, no its not complicated, yes it is a true open business model!

So let's get down to action and realization resulting in mapping of the process and codification of the system!

I guess I am the danish key person

Gunnar Langemark's picture

We have a number of good Drupal people here in Denmark. I'm just discovering some new people now.
Having taken over the responsibility of drupaldanmark.dk - and negotiating to get the drupal.dk domain play a key role too - I'm probably the person to contact.

I'd be delighted to take part in building a marketplace with you guys. I will have some time to spare, though not very much. How can we proceed?

Any help will be appreciated, it is the spirit counts! We are also looking at various other software to help us jump start this thing. It is 4th of July weekend here in the US so will have some fun with the kids then come back with some thoughts/plans.

Simple is our moto

Yes, I think the success of this market place will lie on its simplicity, same for our operations. It will all be magic inside ;-).

I'm equally thrilled to read all these posts in the last couple of days, remember the ASN paper Gunnar? I feel we are getting one step closer.

Talking about Denmark, We are collaborating with a few folks in a very interesting project, one of the key person is also from Denmark whom we can connect you with. As the project is huge, we will first need to get some ideas on the implementation approach from this marketplace group perhaps then we can build a mocked up prototype to get the fundings required to build the real thing.

With that in mind, I'm thinking we can actually practice the art while we are building the system. this will only work for managed project not bidding projects, however it should help to smooth out the processes and give us some best practices.

It's at the center of my new bizz!

Yes I'm in a central position - building the danish community.
I'd be very interested in hearing from you about your danish key person.

sorry I've been away for more than a week from the group. I've been too busy building my new business.
