Creating new sections based on "article"

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I found an old question http://groups.drupal.org/node/46444 about duplicating the "article" content type, its listing page, and node detail page for use as new content sections. (obituaries, sports...)

As I understand things, I need to:
- Duplicate the "article" content type;
- Duplicate the "article" view;
- Duplicate the "article" context

This will let me, for example, create an "obituary" section with its own listing page, individual nodes ("article pages") for the individual listings, and a block for the front page with a few of the most-recent listings. Same idea repeated for a few other sections.

I've been chipping away at this for a few days, and keep hitting various snags... I'm almost able to get there, but can't quite make it work. Does a "how to" for this process exist somewhere that I've missed, or would someone who has done it be willing to walk me through it?

Thanks for any guidance.

I've been told the best way to do this is

The best thing is to stay away from cloning the content type and to just use taxonomy.

For isntance, use sports in your taxonomy.
Now, what I did was clone the article view and then filter it using the sports taxonomy.
Then I go through and change all the titles in the various views (default/page/featured, etc) and on the page view, I am sure to set the correct link (/sports or /obituaries, for example, although the slash isn't needed.)
