What are you using?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I started this post with the intention of just getting opinions on IDEs.
But then I thought I would just share and ask what everyone one uses for all there day to day Drupal or web businesses. I like to find and share new services.

Mac Pro,MacBook Pro ,Dell (on it's way out)

MAMP(local)
Git (Version control)(just really started)
Trying out Netbeans, Eclipse, and Zend (IDE) (w/Drupal plugins for Netbeans and Eclipse)
Google Apps (mail, cal, docs, chat)
Freshbooks (time tracking, billing)
Dropbox (file sync and sharing)
Evernote(screen shots and ideas)
Coda (editor)
Smultron (editor)(now it's Fraise)
Chrome(browser) w/web inspector (1st) OSX
Firefox(browser) w/firebug and drupal for firebug add ons(2nd) OSX
IE 8 (browser if you can call it that)for testing :( Windows
Photoshop (graphics)
Illustrator (graphics)
SizeUp (screen utility)MUST HAVE! Well at least for me I'm still working on only a 20" display or 15" for my MacBook

Actually besides shopping around for a new IDE I'm going to need a way to test stuff in IE with my dell on it's way out. Any thoughts? I would like to do boot camp(security and speed) without the annoyance of having to reboot :) Oh in a perfect world. Anyone have any Virtualization preferences or suggestions?

I need to only do with Windows IE testing, Excel and some Access.

My messy toolbox...

If your windows testing dosen't need to be local...Browsercam perhaps? Unfortunately it's a little pricey.

Other than that I'm a PC gal, my main local IE testing tool is IE Tester, but I don't think there is a Mac version.

My day to day web toys are:

--Dell workstation & laptop
--Dual monitors (hard to work without)
--WAMP
--Quickbooks for billing (love/hate relationship, desktop timer keeps me hooked else I'd dump it)
--Balsamiq - BEST wire frame tool EVER!!!! Yes!!! EVER!!!
--Dreamweaver - to build html and css pages before converting to themes.
--Notepad ++ - code editor
--Photoshop & Illustrator - graphics
--Bridge - to organize files
--Ruler - A tiny app I've been using for years that lets you measure pixels on the screen. Very handy. http://www.microfox.com/ - This is one of those tools that when other graphics of web people see immediately want to know what it is.
--All the Microsoft junk - Word, Excel etc.
--WS-FTP
--Useful File Utilities - A handy little utility took to manage large directories of files. Rename in batches and make text files of directory listings.

--Firefox with web developer and firebug
--Chrome
--Safari (testing only)
--Opera (testing only)
--IE (because I have no choice)
--The testing tool I can't live without is a subscription to Browsercam (even though I sometimes hate it)
--Less so BrowserLab by Adobe (it's rendering of a page is not always so accurate)
--And IE tester for PC - you can test a page in IE Versions from 5.5 to 9 all in one place

That's my toolbox.

I had dual monitors (20" LCD

I had dual monitors (20" LCD & a 20" CRT) then one went out on me. I think I would like to try and do one large widescreen 27" or 30" this time

I've actually never used wire framing just pencil, ruler and paper (sometimes Photoshop and Wacom) but I've been thinking about switching that. Going to try out Balsamiq today for something I plan on starting this weekend. Also think I'll give Browsercam a try all the other Cross Browser Compatibility services I have tried I never cared for.

Honestly I dumped Quickbooks for Freshbooks and couldn't be happier. They have desktop and mobile timers without them I'd be broke. The iphone app is much nicer than the Android though :( I miss it.

Forgot IEtester on my Dell

I really think I'm just going to buy a Dell box. A year subscription for browser testing(at least the ones I looked at) or going with virtulization software ends up being the cost of a cheap machine.

Sounds like a cheap PC is the

Sounds like a cheap PC is the way to go.

Took a quick look at Freshbooks. Looks interesting, I'm going to try the trial account for a month. Maybe this Jan 1, will be the time to jump ship on Intuit. Thanks for the tip. I didn't even know it existed.

Setup and Virtualization Software

criana's picture

I run a MacBookPro with Snow Leopard on it at home attached to a 23" Apple Cinema Display. I upgraded the HD to 500GB 7200rpms and have been very happy since, no where near running out of space anymore.

Software wise:
Photoshop & Illustrator (graphics)
Dreamweaver (when I'm really lazy and want a WYSIWYG)
Coda (slowly moving over to after being a long time Transmit user)
BBEdit (because nothing can compare to it's work with text and Grep searches)
Transmit (FTP)
Freshbooks (invoicing)
QuoteRobot (excellent quotes service, just discovered)
CSS Edit (love this app for writing CSS)
VMWare Fusion running Windows XP
IE Tester running in Windows XP
Firefox with Firebug
Linotype FontXplorer X (font management)
Versions (for Subversion accounts)

At work I run the same set up basically but on a 20" white iMac. I have to use VMWare Fusion on a regular basis as my employer has software written specifically for Windows and I have to do testing. It works great and has a nice small foot print.
