Need a bit of help from the pros

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Need some help. In fact, if someone is good with themes and wants to get in on the ground floor with a site that has the likelihood of taking off, let me know, as we have some industry people taking that gamble. Our site was a smaller hobby site that is now moving to drupal and changing our name due to popularity, so this is the problem.

If you go to the subdomain at www.angryguildleader.com/open you will see that some of the posts are longer (or at least the pictures are longer) than what is allowed in the box. Can someone please explain to me how to make the box longer horizontally?

Perhaps something like what this explains where we have a main box, some news boxes below and then the news, but the news is wider:

http://www.devlounge.net/publishing/how-to-make-a-magazine-style-homepag...

Basically, would like it to look more like a magazine/news portal than basic openpublish.

If someone is really brave, and thinks they are really a badass, Rocketthemes has static that due to GPL people are permitted to bring themes over into drupal and they would even like to see progress.

If anyone has the guts, I actually have http://demo.rockettheme.com/aug10/ and could provide it to someone with the site's info if they wanted to help and become a partner and reap in the possible benefits later. Not only could this make money down the road, being that we've already been a gaming site for 4 years, we have industry contacts for betas, free games, free game time, keys, swag, etc.

So in a nutshell, any themers want to jump on board, or can someone at least help with the length issue, as I am having a hard time wrapping my head around it between views, panels, blocks, etc.....

If you want to have the top

If you want to have the top of the homepage span the first two columns, then have content / categories under that, you're going to need to create at least one new region. The OP documentation lists the steps you need to do this. What I would do is probably wrap a div around the left sidebar region and the above content region. Then make a new region called featured content or something, inside that div that is full width.

I am still in the dark. This

I am still in the dark. This is why I asked. It's like telling someone to drive a stick they need to put it into 1st, 2nd, third, and use the clutch and the stick, but if they don't know what or where these things are, they are lost. I somewhat understand, but I am the editor/content guy, so the design and programming leave me a bit in the dust.

I managed to create a new theme with that link you sent, so I don't mess up the original, but it didn't have a description of how to complete the process you speak of...

Sorry, I am a noob.

No need to apologize. If

No need to apologize.

If you're not a web developer, accomplishing this might be a big undertaking for you. You're going to need to learn HTML and CSS, as well as Drupal, in addition to OP-specific features. This is quite the task even for most web developers.

Unfortunately I don't have the time to walk you through the steps other than to tell you to put it into 1st gear and use the clutch. :) OP is relatively new and the community is small (albeit growing), and documentation is sparse.

As for 2nd gear, it sounds like you need to copy the front page tpl.php to your sub_theme directory and modify the HTML. Add some divs to get the layout you want, and remember that any regions you add in this tpl.php need to be added to your subtheme's .info file.

If you help me out with more specific questions I should hopefully be able to help you. Ask google and if you're stumped give me something specific and I'll do my best. :)

Oh, and if you're serious about hiring a themer (for equity or money) I would guess that this group is not the best place to ask, even if you're looking for an OP themer. Find a place that does themes, especially Drupal themes, and I bet they would be willing to do a OP-specific theme. I doubt you'll find someone around here to do it though.
