Is the public AMI id ami-119c7d78 complete (current), as in, a totally pre-rolled "Mercury," deployment?
Is there another AMI to watch? Where is that sort of info 'kept'?

I just installed Mercury, and I see these 3 pressflow modules. Should I enable them? Why are they not enabled by default?

I decided that my pressflow folder should also be in ebs, so I moved them to a different folder. I only changed etc/apache2/sites-available/default to point to the new location, is there anywhere else I should change?

I've got a pretty stable Mercury instance running (I forget which version). I've not got any production sites on it though I do plan to leverage a Mercury box for that soon.

On this box I have a strange quirk that I can't seem to figure out. If I've not loaded a page for several hours it sends me output of the home page in a /node format instead of the node I've set for the home page. Hit refresh and it does what it's supposed to do.

Ok so I noticed your Aegir build but also noticed joshk's comment here http://groups.drupal.org/node/27134#comment-92680 So if its really different am I to assume it doesn't include all the goodies in Mercury? Im guessing so based on the description over at getpantheon.com ... so I currently have a dedicated server in which i have been running aegir for some time now quite happily ... what I wanted to know is if any of you are running Aegir inside your Mercury goodness? Are there any reasons not to?

First I have to say that this project looks pretty awesome for minimizing setup time on new drupal hosts. I can't wait to give it a go. Question though, is there somewhere I can download the server images? I'm particularly interested in giving them a spin on both vmware and xen. I saw the roll-your-own guide for project mercury which will allow me to get started without a server image, is there something similar for Vulcan?

I've managed to authenticate. My first missteps were not understanding that ports 80 and 22 had to be open. I get the concept but for a non-sysadmin I assumed the EC2 defaults for Security Groups would be set to work automatically. I did finally manage to get to root using Terminal though once these ports were open.

Since I prefer a GUI I'm now trying to get past having to use Terminal on the Mac, but I can't really find a Mac SSH client that works with EC2's private keys. They all want me to authenticate with a username/pw.

My name is Greg Coit, sysadmin for Chapter 3 and I've been helping with Mercury development and testing.

We wanted a get a quick idea of how hard we could push mercury under more "real world" circumstances, so I combined siege and ab to generate a broad spectrum of hits. ab (short for apache benchmark and part of the apache2-utils package) allows you to generate a very large number of hits on one url, while siege (a perl script which comes in a self-titled debian/ubuntu package) lets you spread the hits across many urls, most of which won't be cached. This mixed-load is a much more nuanced and accurate way of looking at performance than peak throughput on a single url.

In trying to take the Pantheon Aegir AMI for a spin, I hit my first obstacle with the database settings during the install.

This may be very obvious beginner mysql mistake but do I need to create the database, user and password before attempting the install?

I tried logging into mysql to create a database and set it up but realised that nowhere in the basic documentation does it mention the mysql password.
I tried the usual suspects , leaving it blank, drupal, mysql, root but none seem to work. I should mention I am trying to login as "root".
