Anyone have favorite modules for implementing moderation in Drupal five or six?

I have been thinking of using a views and actions-based approach

So I agree for the most part with the idea that we don't necessarily need an install profile so much as a bunch of documentation on how to set-up a Drupal based IMC.

I'm not sure if this would be super helpful for the IMC's that have next to no tech related help, but at least if we had a set of default procedures and workflows we could utilize this in order to set-up a site for them without having to spend a lot of time deliberating over the best way to do something within drupal.

Just wanted to pop my head in and let everyone know of the new release of ProsePoint (www.prosepoint.org), a CMS for publishing online newspapers and magazines.

If you look closely at ProsePoint, you'll discover it's derived from Drupal. In fact, it's a Drupal distribution bundled into a single tarball for easy download. Of course, that means there's third party code in there, but it's all in the name of making life easier for end users.

I'd like for us to start compiling a comprehensive picture of the history of successes and failures in developing PEG2.0 tools to be shared among Public Access, PEG, CTC, Community Media groups. I've known of several such efforts, but was surprised to learn over the past few months that there are actually a few groups who have received recent grants similar to ours, aimed at producing open-source tools to serve and be shared by these communities. I'm not sure where all these projects are outlined, but I'm hoping we can summarize most of them here.

I'm working on synthesizing some of the lessons learned (and still being learned) as twincities.indymedia.org deals with the huge traffic associated with the RNC protests and the brutal police response.

Just wanted to announce the availability of the first (alpha) release of ProsePoint, a newspaper content management system.

Some things to note:

ProsePoint is a distribution built on top of Drupal 6.

It is currently alpha software and this is the first release. Hence, there are most likely all sorts of bugs and design inefficiencies. Please be welcome to try it, but use at your own risk.

It has the most customisation and add-on functionality of any distribution that I know of. The eventual aim is to have everything ready to go out of the box. No more searching for extra modules or testing of combinations of modules. Just install and go!

Quick post to let Indymedia folks know that the Knight Drupal Initiative, hosted as another group here on g.d.o, is taking applications. I don't think this has been crossposted yet. I personally would be interesting in working with people on Indymedia-benefiting proposals.

I thought some of the folks here might be interested in a project we're working on - it's called Rootswire - http://www.rootswire.org - and is an aggregation of different political and place blogs. Our first big effort is to build a group site for all of the bloggers covering the Democratic convention. The site is up in beta right now (yeah, yeah, I know - it needs a lot of theming love) and we're currently working on the mechanical aspects of it, and getting bloggers on-board. It's all Drupal, and we're using feedapi and the calais module to import the feeds and automatically tag them.

I got frustrated with files uploaded via the Upload module being assigned seemingly random MIME types, depending on the client that originally uploaded the file. So I made a little utility module -- http://drupal.org/project/filemime -- that may be useful for anyone using the Upload module. It rewrites the MIME type for each file upload based on a server-side mime.types file and/or custom settings.

It hasn't been heavily tested yet so please file an issue if you find any..

A little off-topic, but it seems to me there could be a nice fit with this initiative– code tools for journalists while learning more about being a journalist: Still seeking coders interested in journalism.

I am pretty much the sole admin here at http://sbindymedia.org. We are still running dada (in archive mode) and I have been trying to put together a Drupal install that would suit our needs. (Trying for many months now). A suitable place to host is one of the last issues. (and then there's the dada import, eesh).

We started with a 4.7 install, but as 5 grows I'm highly considering switching to 5.1 and dealing with any lack of modules. Is there a list of issues related to getting 5.1 up and running as an IMC cms? Do people recommend sticking with 4.7 or just switching?

Can we at least get a wiki story going with all of the IMC groups that are running Drupal and list which version and modules they have installed? I realize some of this is on the docs.imc.org server, but it's down and this would be information that the larger Drupal community could use also.

The last part I've really struggled with lately is finding an IMC friendly Drupal hosting server. The server we lease is way outdated and needs a complete overhaul to run Drupal. Does anyone have recommendations on where we could host an install that is friendly to IMCs (logging, large upload size, etc).

i created a module called hidden to have something in between the Drupal states of published and unpublished.
each article (node) or comment has a link 'hide'/'unhide' if the user has the permission to 'mark as hidden'. after having supplied a reason, the obscured items are available unter /hidden.

current caveats:
- comments for hidden items are disabled
- in admin/content/node, the hidden articles appear only as unpublished

dunno how to use the module infrastructure (without patching core modules) to get that straight.

I have contacted the author of nmoderation about getting the patches into the module, but he hasn't responded, so we might want to look at forking it into a seperate moderation module - people's thoughts?

I'm currently modifying the node moderation module to allow moderation of comments (and perhaps throw some AJAX in there for niceness).

Initially, this will be designed to let only editors or admins to moderate. Later I'd like to see it move to a more democratic/community driven system. Can I hear what existing admins/editors would wan

Installation:
The current version of Drupal is 4.7 as of this writing. It can be downloaded at drupal.org and installed on any server running PHP & MySQL with little problem. The installation process is well documented but there are a lot of variables involved in the configuration once you have it up. This document will mainly try to address these choices and present possibilities and examples from various IMCs.

Module Installation:
Once you have the core of Drupal installed you will probably want to install some modules. This is where the drupal experience can become quite confusing, exciting and time consuming. There are a wide variety of modules available for download from drupal.org, and many of them are constantly updating and adding features. Some of them duplicate functions and others hardly work. For an indymedia site to work we will want to enable a few of them at least in order to give multi-media functionality to the drupal site. Here are a few modules I'd recommend.
