Indymedia is a network of autonomous independent news centers from around the globe. Many indymedia sites have started to use Drupal to host the indymedia centers for their cities. This group is a place for people to share recipes, discuss configurations and help each other with using Drupal for open publishing and interactive journalism. Drupal-based Knight News Challenge entry: VozMob / Mobile Voices
Vote up our Drupal-based entry into the Knight News Challenge! http://newschallenge.tumblr.com/post/19436436704/vozmob-mobile-voices-af...
This proposal will support continued development of the VozMob Drupal distribution, which includes completing the Drupal 7 upgrade of various contributed modules.
VozMob - https://vozmob.net/ - "amplifies the voices of those excluded from the digital public sphere, by appropriating mobile phones for community-based journalism."

Hi all,
Good day. Just wanted to pop my head in and let everyone know about the new newspaper cms we've been developing. I did a Drupal showcase write up on it a couple of months ago but that seems to have faded away into obscurity.
And then I thought it might be an interesting point for discussion here on this group.

I'm working on a set of modules for migrating an sf-active site to Drupal 7.
These modules depend on https://drupal.org/project/migrate - an excellent framework for migrating content from other sources - as well as https://drupal.org/project/features for setting up custom content types, fields etc.
You can find it at https://drupal.org/project/sfactive and also mirrored on gitorious at https://gitorious.org/sf-active/drupal

Secure Login module was in need of a maintainer, so I decided to take it on.
What I like about Secure Login is that it's a small, simple module that makes it easy to enforce secure (SSL) logins on a Drupal site.
I've already committed a Drupal 7 version which could use testing and feedback.

Hi, missing a link to an informative page/wiki on the IntraNet group page; about ways to accomplish a Drupal IntraNet and pros & cons of different methods doing so? Just a guess; I tried if a "intranet" module exists and yes: http://drupal.org/project/intranet ... Next try, what more shows up under intranet? http://drupal.org/search/apachesolr_search/intranet
OK, now I get confused, so maybe I shouldn't install the intranet module..?

Moderation modules
This is related to, but not the same as Moderating Revisions. Both have the concept that a node created or edited by an untrusted user moves to a moderation queue until an admin can review it. Revision moderation displays an older, approved revision of a node after an untrusted user makes an edit. Moderation is simpler, as it doesn't have the feature of a visible older revision: the edited node simply goes back to the earlier moderation queue state.
Some features of moderation that some but no all moderation modules have:

Indymedia Portugal (http://pt.indymedia.org) was launched on the last November 30th, marking the 10th anniversary of Indymedia and of the Seattle protests.
This was, in fact, a relaunch. The old website (Mir) went offline around 2 years ago and the editorial collective had no longer enough dynamic to run the process. A new collective formed recently and decided to relaunch the website. Drupal was the chosen platform :)
The theme is a Zen subtheme, called indyactivist, which we will contribute after properly cleaning the code.

So I agree for the most part with the idea that we don't necessarily need an install profile so much as a bunch of documentation on how to set-up a Drupal based IMC.
I'm not sure if this would be super helpful for the IMC's that have next to no tech related help, but at least if we had a set of default procedures and workflows we could utilize this in order to set-up a site for them without having to spend a lot of time deliberating over the best way to do something within drupal.

Hi,
Just wanted to pop my head in and let everyone know of the new release of ProsePoint (www.prosepoint.org), a CMS for publishing online newspapers and magazines.
If you look closely at ProsePoint, you'll discover it's derived from Drupal. In fact, it's a Drupal distribution bundled into a single tarball for easy download. Of course, that means there's third party code in there, but it's all in the name of making life easier for end users.

Hi,
Just wanted to announce the availability of the first (alpha) release of ProsePoint, a newspaper content management system.
Some things to note:
ProsePoint is a distribution built on top of Drupal 6.
It is currently alpha software and this is the first release. Hence, there are most likely all sorts of bugs and design inefficiencies. Please be welcome to try it, but use at your own risk.
It has the most customisation and add-on functionality of any distribution that I know of. The eventual aim is to have everything ready to go out of the box. No more searching for extra modules or testing of combinations of modules. Just install and go!

I thought some of the folks here might be interested in a project we're working on - it's called Rootswire - http://www.rootswire.org - and is an aggregation of different political and place blogs. Our first big effort is to build a group site for all of the bloggers covering the Democratic convention. The site is up in beta right now (yeah, yeah, I know - it needs a lot of theming love) and we're currently working on the mechanical aspects of it, and getting bloggers on-board. It's all Drupal, and we're using feedapi and the calais module to import the feeds and automatically tag them.

I got frustrated with files uploaded via the Upload module being assigned seemingly random MIME types, depending on the client that originally uploaded the file. So I made a little utility module -- http://drupal.org/project/filemime -- that may be useful for anyone using the Upload module. It rewrites the MIME type for each file upload based on a server-side mime.types file and/or custom settings.
It hasn't been heavily tested yet so please file an issue if you find any..
