Central Denver Drupal Meetup: Tuesday, July 27th, 2021
Step by step walkthrough of the recipe of Layout Builder core and contributed modules used at Elevated Third. Michael Lander and Aubrie Hill will start with the most bare bones version of Layout Builder and work through the layers of enhancements they use to help them improve workflows, usability and access control, with the ultimate goal of improving the content admin experience. They'll talk about their thought process behind the approach and where they see it going next.

CKEditor 4 has been a feature of Drupal core since Drupal 8.0.0. It is a stable project, but it will only receive security fixes for two more years (until Drupal 9's end-of-life). Replacing CKEditor with the new and very much improved CKEditor 5 is therefore a requirement for Drupal 10 to remain supported and secure. In order to release Drupal 10.0.0 on schedule in 2022, we need to have a new core CKEditor 5 module ready before Drupal 9.3.

In preparation of Drupal Global Contribution Weekend 2021, this months meetup will go into the various ways to contribute work to the Drupal project! We'll look at how to create and submit patches on projects that still use that workflow, as well as tips for managing patches on your projects. We'll also take a look at the new fork and pull request model that projects are moving to, and what that workflow will look like.

This month, Salim Lakhani will give us a 15-20 min demo of DevPanel's latest release. The UI and functionality is similar to that of Pantheon, Acquia, and Platform.sh but the difference is that DevPanel deploys and manages all of the Drupal infrastructure and Dev, Test, Live sites in the user's own AWS accounts. For technologies, DevPanel is based on Kubernetes and uses Terraform and Ansible. Because DevPanel is more a "control panel" than a hosting provider, its business model and value proposition is very different.

When Drupal 8 introduced it's Layout Discovery API the manner in which Drupal websites were designed, built, and maintained drastically shifted. With that quickly came solutions like Layout Builder, Entity Reference with Layout, and Layout Paragraphs that allowed editors to not only manage the content on their websites, but to also manage that content's presentation. The potential of this newfound level of control means editors are now more in control of their online presence than they've ever been, but this flexibility isn't without it's own challenges.
