High Performance

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

This group is dedicated to solutions and approaches for high traffic, high performing Drupal sites. As such, it will deal with a lot of information around the rest of a typical Drupal "stack" -- the operating system, web server, database, and PHP tweaks that combine to support the Drupal application.

This is not a support channel or a place to post bug reports.

If you think you have found a bug, use the issue queue for the appropriate project.

If you need support, see http://drupal.org/support for options.

Site was hit by meteorit

Today our site (local news) was hit by users that would like to know whats going on.
I have set up 2 years ago dedicated server with memcached turned on and it works great but today.
Provider of data-center told that we have reached about 80 megabit incoming traffic in peak today, proc had about 76% load.

Drupal works as nginx -> php-fpm. When server became slow, i could ssh in server, inspect processes, even worked apache on separate ip - phpmyadmin, and nginx result in 502 error on server.

Any experience with HostGator dedicated servers

I am looking to migrate a client with 10,000 page views per month (which is quiclky moving toward a 15,000 to 20,000 page view / month traffic profile) to a HostGator dedicated server. I have had good experiences with HostGator shared hosting and very good interactions with their sales professionals and tech support.

XML Sitemap Scan = high load

Yesterday, an internal staff member was running two XML sitemap scans on our site and we were seeing loads on the Linux web head servers in excess of 12-15. We are running a Varnish/Pound proxy in front of the drupal web head with the MySQL DB on a 3rd server. We asked them to stop and the load disappeared.

Caching for anonymous users set to expire after a minute, but it never expires: any idea what I'm doing wrong?

I am expecting my pages to be cached for anonymous users for a maximum of one minute, but there is probably something I am not understanding. Any help greatly appreciated!

    To reproduce:

Install a new Drupal 7 site

    On admin/config/development/performance,

    • set Cache pages for anonymous users to checked
    • set Cache blocks to checked
    • set Minimum cache lifetime to 1 minute
    • set Expiration of cached pages to 1 minute

now download the examples proejct and enable the block_example module.

in block_example.module, add a line under function block_example_contents, like this:

Liquid Web Storm Servers VPS -- Would you recommend?

I've been asked by a client to get references for Liquid Web and their Storm Servers VPS solution, but I'm not able to get any through Liquid Web themselves. Can anyone recommend them, or does anyone have bad experiences? Thanks!

Complex site, Slow Drupal - Is this normal?

A quite complex site - nearly 400 modules is getting seriously slow.

    For example:

Executed 2923 queries in 925.65 milliseconds. Queries taking longer than 100 ms and queries executed more than once, are highlighted. Page execution time was 7228.93 ms.

Executed 4957 queries in 1139.61 milliseconds. Queries taking longer than 100 ms and queries executed more than once, are highlighted. Page execution time was 9312.87 ms.

    Authcache: 1.0 release & "multi-variant" caching

    Hi All,

Thought you might be interested to know that I've just posted a 7.x-1.0 release of Authcache.

I've also added an interesting feature to the dev branch. That is, the ability to have custom authcache keys. This might be useful for example if you have a lot of roles on your site but you don't want to cache different content for each of them. It would also be useful if you wanted to cache different content for different devices eg mobile / desktop etc.

    It's very easy and powerful.
