This group is dedicated to solutions and approaches for high traffic, high performing Drupal sites. As such, it will deal with a lot of information around the rest of a typical Drupal "stack" -- the operating system, web server, database, and PHP tweaks that combine to support the Drupal application.

Does htaccess RewriteCond affect performance?

Hi, Performance issues aren't really my forte:

background info:
My test site is geared to anonymous only, and thus have Boost. Each node has a cck field so that users can type in a word eg. "DOG". I've hotlinked an image url to automatically include that cck word - eg. http://mysite/images/DOG.jpg. This allows me the choice to easily upload a picture or not. Obviously a 'broken image' icon appears if no pic is uploaded.

To resolve the 'broken link' ugliness I've come across something like:

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f

I have a big site and recently converted to Drupal.

My forums (using drupal advanced forum) are very slow and my users are unhappy.

Installed the devel module I can see that I have a tremendous amount of duplicate queries, but how can I eliminate them?

Some queries are called over 60 times!

Devel reports:

Executed 1347 queries in 5666.48 milliseconds
Page execution time was 7213.35 ms.

cron fails due to memcache

Optimizing my site (any advice appreciated)

I recently converted a somewhat big site to Drupal 6.

We currently have:
~13,000 registered users, usually anywhere from 50 - 100 online at a time.
~23,000 nodes
~380,000 comments

I'm running on a VPS with 4gb ram, 200 gb disk space.

I have drupal page compression enabled, optimize css and js enabled.

My host has installed xcache for me.

I really love the drupal framework but my users are very displeased at my current speeds.

Some of the complaints I have received are:

"Speed- slooooooooooow. Agonizingly slooooooooow. 20+ seconds per click."

New Mercury 1.2 install instructions: When available??

there should be vastly simplified instructions for installing Mercury on a VPS somewhere around mid-November.

Of course, it's December now. Have I missed the post?? Just wondering when the info might become available. I'm ready to create a Linode Mercury install with Ubuntu 9.10 (for PHP compatibility) but the Linode stackscript is over 6 months old now.

I think it would be better to install manually, just to understand the process.

Will these instructions be available soon?? Thanks!

Best caching for thousands of authenticated users?

Hi.

Currently I'm developing drupal page (as knowing drupal on medium+ level) for ONLY authenticated users.

Aim is to get even more than 1 mln loged in users.

Site will be quite simple. Users can add some nodes, that are visible ONLY for their friends. Users can search (currenlty using views filter) for a node (still ONLY their friends nodes), and can watch others friends profile (with nodes friend submitted).

I think that all page should be cached exept searching result. And if a user submitted a new node his profile should be updated (cache cleared).

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of purchasing a VPS package and I have a few different hardware configurations I can choose from.
I'm going to host around 20 small sites with low traffic.

This is what I can afford:
- One dedicated CPU core
- 1024 Ram
- 10GB Storage
- 10Mbit/sec Unmeted bandwith
- Control Panel: cPanel/DirecAdmin
- Centos, Debian, Ubuntu... Which is best?

Will this work well? Would you add or cut somewhere?

So far I have been developing sites on my local machine and dumping all the files + database to my live server after the development is done. These were some small projects for which I used some contributed modules and wrote some small modules for them.

Now I have a requirement to provide some changes and updates to my live projects. The only way I can do it now is to keep working on my local site and keep a track of all the steps I have performed. Once I am done with the local site perform the same steps on live server.

Definitely this should not be the way to do this !!!!!
