This group will discuss and devlop email solutions within Drupal. There are lots of modules that contain duplicate mailing efforts, and various modules that deal with small pieces of the overall mail puzzle. The goal of this group is to investigate existing and new modules that unify these efforts and form end-to-end solutions.
Possible areas of focus:
- Reusing mail-sending code site-wide (for user mails, subscriptions, project, etc.)
- Themeing and mime mail
- User Preferences (do not contact, text-only, etc)
- Scalable announcement/mail campaign strategies
- MLM/forum/group integration
- Inbound/mail parsing code (for forum mails, tickets, etc.)
Stable 4.7 verison of listhandler? Patches need review
I just posted a couple of patches to listhandler to work with PostgreSQL.
I had also fixed a couple of bugs that prevented certain postings on the site, not to be mailed out.
Please take a look at these patches so they can be applyed to CVS and we can get a stable verison of this module up and working.
Also if anyone knows a better way to create a database independence query with regular experisons ... post it in the issue tracker .....
Thanks
Trevor
Read morerouting mailhandler into groups?
Hi guys
Any thoughts on best way to route incoming email via mailhandler into an OG?
Or would you use OGList for this?
Thanks, Neil.
Read moreWhat is the status/sentiment for Gerhard's separate mail backend patch?
This patch is laying dormant in the patch queue. What are the current sentiments? Is there convergence towards Gerhard's approach, or towards MimeMail/Send?
Has anyone enumerated the specific issues that remain?
I hate hacking core on my clients' installations but recently had to in order to meet the requirement that every sent mail gets logged (the watchdog messages don't qualify as logging in this case... needed more information delivered in a unified way). Since all mail is still handled by user_mail, I had to add a logging call to that function. Yuck! Where's the hook_mail?
Read moreOg2List and Cpanel/WHM????
Hey there,
Tried to get my systems administrator to install og2list today.
He replied:
" Are you sure you want us to make all those mail router configuration changes to your exim config. I do not see cpanel supporting this software and so mails on other domains may get messed up by this. "
So I ask you: "Will og2list work with a dedicated host running cpanel/whm?"
When I tried to add the settings to my exim.conf file on my own all other mail stopped.. When I removed the changes I made the email resumed being sent... all email that didn't go through in the interim was then allowed to be delivered.. so nothing was lost.... but then I had no idea what order to put things in or if some settings should combine with or supercede others...
Creating drupal content (especially issue tracking) with email -- is mailhandler the only way?
the #1 unmet requirement for converting my entire day job's content management needs to drupal is the fact that we currently handle a lot of our content via email. i need a way to plug these existing email addresses into my new drupal site and have the content flow in both directions.
in particular, we use email-based issue-tracking systems, and our entire userbase is used to sending support questions and bug reports to an email address, not going to a web site and filling out a form. similarly, there's a big global email list where people can ask support questions and other users try to answer. this serves much the same function as the forums on drupal.org: clueful users who aren't quite clueful enough to be developers can handle the 1st-tier support questions, and leave the developers more time to write code instead of answering silly questions.
Read moremailing list manager for 4.7?
I was looking for a working list manager for 4.7. There doesn't seem to be one. phplist, mlm, ezmlm, mlist all cause errors at various stages in a clean 4.7 install.
is anyone working on such a 4.7 module? i see a couple of the above modules have 4.7 tags, but they still don't work.
would this be considered the homepage for any such effort?
Read moreMail support for Events
In a meeting today discussing the next generation of the Events systems we recognized that mail issues were a pretty big deal. We'll be working and posting specific use cases shortly. In the meantime there was a stong feeling from those present that we should coordinate all mail issues with this group.
There are two broad issues - the UI and the back-end services.
UI
- The ability to compose and deliver HTML and text emails
- A well designed UI for non-technical end-users
- Ability to drop in merge codes for personalization and common text
API
- abstracted mail delivery services
- ability to create unique tokens
- auto-generation of reply addresses
I'm sure this is an incomplete (if not mis-informed) list - but you get the idea :). Our initial question is what level of coordination do we need to have? Our assumption is that send.module does much of what we need already. What else should we be thinking about?
Read moreOG2List: Organic Groups based mailing list manager
CivicSpace has developed an Organic Groups mailing list manager. It accomplishes several tasks.
1) Keeps Groups members synchronized with mailing list membership by using the group as the mailing list membership.
2) Mail Transport Agent independent - works with Exim and Postfix
3) Dynamically creates a mailing list for each group, good if groups are spontaneously created.
4) Mailing list management, and Drupal management via email with mailcommand.
5) Thread management with comment mover.
