How to set the Home page to a single coulmn layout with some article content in it?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hi all!

I simply don't get why i can't set the HomePage to a LandingPage with a 1 column layout. This seems to get ignored in op.

is there a way to set such a home page without chnaging the home template?
