Is OpenPublish ready for prime time for the small sites?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I have spent three months trying to set up a multilingual site using OpenPublish (2.3) with Drupal 6.20 and calendar and i18n.
I have encountered so many major problems in so many areas I am beginning to wonder whether this is a package best left for big sites having lots of resources and experience or is it just me being absolutely thick. To help undertand my problems I have categorised the problems encountered below:-

  • Primary links menu size varies according to what is above it and also by language selected, css variations solve the problem in one but not both cases.
  • Can not translate personalised terms in the primary links menu, even after adding translated terms in every fr.po file going and adding all the menu translations in Internalize menu translate.
  • Translated articles appear in both versions on every language, in other words for every article there both an English and French one
  • Translating terms in a vocabulary is a real pain as each term has to be translated separately and when there are many terms this is boring.
  • Slideshow duplicates the images (caused by the default seeting of Views/Distinct =No) and shows them too large inside a box which overlaps the bottom boundary. It also uses forward and back arrows even though javascript is switched on. There does not seem to be any control panel to manage this.
  • Can't link to picassaweb docs
  • Can't figure out how to add extra content types to front page
  • Can't figure out how to show more than one photo in an article, except in teaser form
  • In other words I can not get the fundamentals to work correctly plus the important issues can not be resolved.

I am sorry if this is bit of a diatribe but it looks it looks as if I have wasted three months and will either have to can the project or do it another way. And this list does not include all things that I have resolved, which are many
If there are any suggestions apart from unpleasant ones I would be grateful for any guidance
If anyone is kind enough to take an interest then you can find the site on calijournal.info

Slideshow + documentation

Duplicates are resolved by setting views to distinct = yes, but why is this not set like that as default?
This highlights that the real problem here is lack of adequate documentation.
Should anyone be interested then I am happy to contribute what I have found out to a documentation project. Contact me directly
