This 'robinfly' user might be a spammer in disguise

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

There's a new, five-day-old user named 'robinfly' on the g.d.o. site(s) that appears to be making one me-too post every day that doesn't really do anything for any group, except provide a set of links to non-drupal sites in "her" sig.

I deleted her saved signature, and all the sigs she's posted so far. Let's see what "she" does next. If we get an email, fine. If it's really a spammer, they'll realize we're onto them and hopefully give up.

Somebody remind me to check this situation again in a few days and follow up with robinfly's spammy ways? Thanks.

Robinfly's first post to g.d.o:

I'm Judy Lake, from NewYork. I'm very happy when i knew not only men in Drupal community, it have so many great lady here. I start develop Drupal from last year, so i'm new in drupal community. I'm learning a lot of things from drupal community. But drupal is fun, it inspire me learning more about it. I like drupal same as everyone!

I'm managing DIGICACH, Answer How, Travel Propel

FYI, all of her posts seem to reference something in the thread she posts in, but really, when you read them all together as I have just done, you realize that this person is in no way contributing to any of these groups. They're just creating outbound links. That's why I've done what I did.

robinfly strikes again:

I'm a spammer???

robinfly's picture

I found my signature be deleted in some post's reply when i came back to see what new reply today. At first, i think drupal group's DB may be have problem, so i updated my signature from my account. But after that I guess some moderators maybe think me as a spammer, so i go to this drupal group, i saw the first post is "robinfly may be spammer"! I just want to let you know i'm not a spammer here. If drupal not allowed to add any site links or any not build with drupal site links in signature, i'll keep my signature no any links in the future, also drupal shall let me know it on signature edit page. I need mention that i'm new, and i haven't enough knowladges of drupal, still learning it and want to use drupal as my new site's script, so i read some posts on drupal group. If you think me as a spammer, Ok, just delete my account on drupal group, you needn't to waste your time to see my next action, and i don't want anyone call me as a spammer!

You said i "doesn't really do anything for any group", does that means anyone who comment any post shall do something in some group firstly?

If so, ok, that means drupal group is a old drupaller's group, newbie out of it!

Finally, i understand your purpose, you just only want to clear all spammer on drupal, and i just want to let you know this is not a spammer talking with you. I suggest drupal use nofollow tag to avoid this problem, so that it needn't to moderate it.

Don't take offense

Spammers are getting very tricky, using scripts that take bits and pieces of posts to make their posts look legitimate. It's getting harder and harder to detect it. My guess is that English isn't your first language and that made your posts look like they may have been script generated, which is what triggered the concern. You are allowed to put links in your signature, so no worries there. Please don't take offense at this false alarm unless you want to be offended by the real spammers that make stuff like this happen.

Not mind it

robinfly's picture

That's right, my first language is not english, you are very smart boy. May be since i'm too new and wrote some comments which looks like no sense, so moderator think it as script sent and catch me as a spammer. But i feel really not well when i saw this post. May be i need read all doc and understand drupal firstly, and then join drupal groups to talk about it with other experienced drupallers. Just not like anyone call me as a spammer, so post here to clarify it. I think the moderator also needn't mind i said, his purpose only anti-spam.

still not convinced

catch's picture

I'm still somewhat skeptical I'm afraid, having dealt with many many paid spammers on other sites. For example, you've left very similar messages on both the Bay Area and South Melbourne user groups - neither of which you have much chance of attending if you're based in New York.

You can keep your idea

robinfly's picture

Hi catch, i think as a newbie here i don't know whether it have NY group, and i just looked around the drupal groups. After learning, i think i'll know which group i shall go. If you go to shopping or travel in a strange place, do you know where should you go? I think most of people will look around it firstly, and then they may be know which place he shall go, right? Additional, if this is a spammer, why i clarify it here again and again? Just because i need out link? If i really need out link, i think i can find a lot of resources to get it and post with spam scripts, why i must get it with manual way here as a "spammer". But, certainly you may keep your idea here.

Nofollow

Nofollow is pretty useless as an anti-spam measure, spammers just don't care.

Welcome Robinfly

Check out our group for women in Drupal: http://groups.drupal.org/drupalchix . Do you have a particular area of Drupal that you'd like to get more involved with? Anything in particular that you'd like help with?

Hi Lee

robinfly's picture

Hello, i have seen that women group. I'm new until now, just only join this community and learning it from drupal groups. I'm still a beginner, so haven't an expert particular area. But i'm learning it, after understand the basic drupal doc i'll understand which area is the important and which area i need learn more, so that i have purpose to learn it and join your group to talk about some tech with you.

OK, This is the reaction I was looking for.

The very fact that I got a reaction out of you, Robinfy, is a good sign. Thanks for posting in a positive manner. We would ask that as you learn about Drupal and begin participating in our various groups, you not provide outbound links to three of your own sites that aren't run by Drupal and appear to be commercial in nature?

Welcome aboard.

Hi Senpai

robinfly's picture

Thanks for your reply. Please do not mind what i said. Just clarify here. I'll participate some groups. I think outbound link is needn't, it'll let moderators thinking me as a spammer, but may be i can add my drupal profile link into signature to instead non drupal site out links. I think it'll better than before, and it'll looks like a drupal fans :), just like your sig here. I'll keep my sig cleanly. Have a good day boy!
