Is the marketplace group in need of CPR?

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Judging from the latest (cross)posts, I'd say interest in this particular group seems to be waning.

Also, I've seen nothing of general relevance occurring over at http://citizenagency.com/.

I know it's difficult to get any sort of momentum behind an idea, however good it may be.

As I understand it, the motivation behind the Marketplace group is to unite demand for website construction (featuring Drupal) with small groups of people with the necessary skillset to fulfill a given instance of this demand.

My own personal, selfish goal in participating in this group is to hook up with one or more of: web designer, graphic artist, (drupl saavy) program manager to form a Drupal supergroup (what if Jones, Page, Plant and Bonham had been web developers!). I believe there are others out there with similar goals.

So where do we start?

STAT!

Quiet in the surgery please Harry, we're right in the middle of a tricky bypass. In fact, 10 ccs of saline, some rubber gloves and an odd shaped hacksaw please. Hurry man, this patient is going Joomla on us.......

Actually the guys have made a huge amount of progress offline with setting up the group, now is probably a good time to provide an update to re-start momentum here.

Oops, no log in

s'me.

I would suggest not trying

I would suggest not trying to overthink it. All participants will hopefully be capable of working out details on the fly, being professionals and whatnot.

http://programmermeetdesigner.com/ is taking the haphazard approach (in fact it's all busted ATM), and it seems to be gaining popularity rapidly.

Throw up a drupal site with OG, profiles and maybe some CCK classifieds and let's do this thing!

Update Folks, will not overthink anymore!

After some discussions with Neil and Jenny, whom I met at this marketplace, we found that we can create some great synergies for a set of common objects that we have been pursuing individually. So a new non-profit organization has been formed with the collaboration of FOSSFP, ODN, and WebAntiphon, here is a little plug for the new organization but it is relevant to this group as it was the prime motivation of our desire to mobilize the Drupal supply and demand ecosystem -- as part of the FOSS movement for our missions and purpose.

Our Mission

The International Free and Open Source Software Foundation (iFOSSF)
is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to funding,
fueling and accelerating the adoption, development, and usage of
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Free and Open
Source Software (FOSS) by communities and individuals worldwide for
their sustained economic and social development as collaborative
efforts to close the digital divide, especially for the socially
disadvantaged.

Our Purpose

   * Apply thought leadership in support of innovation and
creativity in research and development of FOSS solutions for
the benefit of the global community
   * Facilitate growth of new and emerging businesses with
     consideration for equal inclusion
   * Provide strategic leadership in developing FOSS opportunities
that are driven by both market and social contexts

We are in the process of applying funding for the projects we had in mind... so it will never be too soon to get all the resources sorted out.

That's right Harry et al, let's go - I will say OG, CCK and drupal core can get us quite far, I will start by defining the user profile fields first, suggestions on how to best collaborate on this?
