From a previous discussion:
Oct 11th is good for me. Quick Overview of what we could plan for the meeting. This is not strict guideline, more of a suggestion:
15 minutes - Introductions for everyone.
15 minutes - My GSoC project
15 minutes - Kyle's project
15 minutes - Presentation about someone's recent Drupal-driven website.
30 minutes to 1 hour - Informal Drupal discussion. Any topic, any current projects, anything Drupal-related.
Just curious if this is a go.
I'm not much of a techie. I am more savvy than my mother calling for technical support, at this meeting will most likely be a parasitic spectator. I'm considering learning Drupal for a master's project in journalism.
Ciao
Okay, we have 7 people coming, that's enough for me. I'd say the meeting's on. We just need someone with an SLC County library card to book us a conference room. It's free, we just need the card.

Hello everyone,
I am a new user of drupal. I have started a couple businesses here in Utah and found because of my lack of technical knowledge, I have been limited in starting a few other "for profit and non profit" businesses.
I would LOVE to get more involved in any meetings and educational options to further my very, very, very, very, limited technical knowledge of drupal.
Can anyone recommend educational options, drupal website developers here locally, and other trainings to "get me up to speed?"
I have received bids on a few projects and it seems like I would have to "sell my soul" to pay for what I want done. Range from $10k to $20k, + or - 20%.... YIKES!!!
I have 2 businesses I want to start; One is a Not for Profit organization where I would like to setup a website to generate donations to the "Intermountain Spina Bifida Foundation" formerly known as "Spina Bifida Association of Utah" I am on the board and know of the limited resources available.
The second site is a full on ecommerce business in the Advertising and Marketing arena.
Again, I could sure use some guidance, more user meetings and help to find my way in this "simple CMS" of drupal. By the way, I have a www.siteground.com account where I downloaded drupal 6... I think??? :o)
There are a couple of us in the area that do full-time Drupal consulting, with others doing it on the side. If you're interested in sitting down to discuss these projects let's have a conversation outside of the forum, so we're not showering the group with emails. :)
As for training, there's not much going on here in UT, but if you follow groups like Lullabot (http://lullabot.com) you can find training around the country. However, if you want training on the user level rather than the technical level, your best bet is to buy a book and start playing. I'd recommend:
As for meetings, hopefully we can have one more before the year is over, but Christmas season is always crazy, so it may not be till the beginning of next year. If you have questions post them here and we'll do our best to answer them.
Always,
I would be happy to help with whatever I can. If you would like to chat about your needs, and try to figure out what we need to do to get your sites up and running please don't hesitate contact me. I am available via Skype, any Instant Messenger service, email, or phone.
P.S. I don't construe to be a Drupal master, but I can do quite a bit with it. I am not much of the designer type but as far as getting Drupal set-up I can definitely help that way.
Sorry people. I thought this was a no-go as of Friday morning, so I did not notice the meeting place set-up Friday afternoon. So, sorry about trying to set up a meeting, and then not making it. Anyways, how was the meeting?

It was good. Only Chuck, Mike, Kevin, and I showed up. We chatted for an hour or so on various Drupal topics/news. I showed off my Memetracker project. Since there was only four of us and no projector, we went without a formal program.

I thought this was planned already?
I'm looking forward to meeting with the local Drupal developers so let's make this happen.

Have any of you reserved a room? If not, let's meet at the Coffee Connection in downtown SLC where we met in February.
