Let's create a site!!

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

First - I want to ask why we can't turn on subscriptions here on groups.drupal? We apparently have taxonomy_breadcrumb and a few other "non-core" modules working. We have 64 subscribers, and nobody knows when posts are updated here without coming back each day (which I get few of the 64 do). I think with subscriptions on we'd get a lot more participation.

Ok, enough of that. I would like to know who here is interested in participating in the mock creation of a drupal web site optimized for SEO. What I mean is - let's collectively write a cohesive plan for setting up the most optimized site possible.

I believe we would need an outline to start. Items that come to mind for me right away are:

  1. Obtain a domain (with good keywords)
  2. Setup latest version of Drupal
  3. Create robots.txt
  4. Choose a theme
  5. Enter admin->setting to setup cron and unique paths, sitename, slogan, footer, etc.
  6. Install additional modules
  7. Setup additional modules (admin->settings)
  8. Admin content-types
  9. Admin roles
  10. Configure access permissions
  11. Create vocab and terms or categories
  12. Setup views if necessary
  13. Create Content

Can we do something like this? What is my outline missing? Can we go into detail for each item number? Would you all be willing to participate?

Emails work for me - are you certain they aren't getting blocked along the way?

I have received every message in this thread to my e-mail. Maybe you might try disabling and then re-enabling the option, just to shake things up a bit?

Subscribe:
1. To the group (in this case SEO)
2. To receive email for a specific group (again, in this case SEO).

Go to http://groups.drupal.org/og/manage/551 and, under "Email notification:", click the radio button for "enabled".

I would be interested if

We actually made the site commercial and donated the proceeds to a project directly releated to SEO.

that would be very interesting.....

that would be very interesting indeed....however - due to the lack of comments since I posted this, I don't think enough people would be interested in contributing enough information...

As with most things

I think if we want to see how well Drupal does w/SEO, we should not do the first item. If we want to test and tweak Drupal to give the best possible positions, we should be able to do it regardless of the domain name.

Sometimes, people cannot get the domain name they really want, and they have to settle for something a little less. That's when the real art or science of SEO comes into play, and getting the most out of Drupal would be really important then.
