Hello everyone,
I need to go live in about a month and I need to set up OG's. I am on Drupal 6 and it looks like all the nice OG set ups I've found use OG panels. I want to do something in the meantime. Now that panels is out, I guess I can try to do something similar to what is done with APK. I am not sure if I would manage to do without writing any code but might try to give it a go. Would anyone have any other recommendation on how to approach this?. Maybe something like this? : http://www.whatnow.org.uk/groups/carers not sure how to achiveve what they did. Any idea?. I also still have not learnt how to override the OG template so that it does not show all the content in the main node.
One other dumb question?. How exactly do I change my url's for OG's so that they all have the form mysite/groups/mygroup? even if the group is created by a normal authenticated user (also looks liek a requirement if I want to use panels to override the og template.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

The OG Panels module hasn't been ported to D6, yet, but Moshe has said he's updating g.d.o soon with or without it so there's hope that will get things moving. :)

yes, I have been hoping for OG panels to be out for a while but just hoping I can find a solution in the meantime as I still need to get the site live soon.

Use Drupal5
The solution is to drop back to Drupal 5 if you need to push this out quickly and are depending on og_panels.module. If you're not doing any custom coding, it should be relatively easy to follow the upgrade path later once it has been released.

I have been considering that option as last resource. I just had a look at the latest discussion of OG_panels http://drupal.org/node/307980 and it does seem like they are very close so hopefully it will be ready in a few weeks. I think in the meantime I might have to get ready for a release with out panels or work a way around to get something similar with what is available now. You have any idea how these people did this look for their groups?

You would do this with the Pathauto module. You will also need the Token module and you may find other modules such as the Type user nids module (that I created) helpful.
Yes, it strange that you can end up with 4 or 5 modules just to do a task like this but that is part of the modularity of Drupal.
