Yesterday Tyler was asking in IRC what we'd like to talk about this coming week. Since not everyone is on IRC I thought I'd bring it up here.

Is there something anyone wants to show off? Or anything anyone wants to learn about?

Best Practices

I'd like to hear about some Drupal best practices... anything about sitebuilding, maintenance, performance, etc. I'm relatively new with drupal so it would be great to learn from your mistakes, since I'll be making plenty of my own over the next little while.

I like this idea... even us more experienced Drupalers can gain something from this. I'd suggest everyone come with a list of 3-5 best practice tips and 3-5 best practice modules for discussion.

I would welcome this as well, and hope it will include "best practices" for beginning any Drupal project.

As a backup option, I also agree that each of us can bring something to demo, even if it turned out not to work for us.

I might not be able to attend the meetup on Thursday. If so, I can present writing VBO actions. We did this recently for a client and solved an interesting problem in the process.

I like the best practices as well. Let's plan on that for part of the meeting.

If Jason/Dharmatech can make it I wouldn't mind hearing about VBO either.

Do we have any other topics we want to talk about?

Recently, I've been playing around with Aegir. I don't have too much to show for it, but I've been having fun working on it.

If anyone had some good best practices specifically in regard to better site performance and drupal, that would be awesome! :) This is something I've been struggling with for some time.

We are hosting TicketCake.com on the getpantheon.com servers. They user Varnish, apache solar search & some other features on a pressflow installation if anyone wants to see how there backend is setup and do some real world testing on it.

@Dylan - We were looking at Pantheon recently. I'd love to see how that works.
@Chad - We can certainly add that into the best practices.

So let's plan on this for the meeting:

  • Part 1: Drupal Best Practices
  • Part 2: Drupal Automation: Pantheon vs Aegir
  • Part ?: VBO if Jason can make it.

The best practices discussion should be interesting. BTW, if we ever need pizza (or anyone wants good pie by the slice), The Pie Hole on State and ~350 S. is a good spot. The hand-coded website, copyright 1825 General Custer could probably use some Drupal love... maybe as a group we can trade. :)
