Hello everybody,

I decided to work with OpenPublish so I started reading and searching the lastest (and more stable) version and I could find thw following profiles:

1) openpublish-2.3-build441.zip (16826032 bytes)
-Based on Drupal 6
-Promoted by ACQUIA (OP v2.3 build 441)
-Downloaded from site1: http://www.acquia.com/downloads
-Downloaded from site2: http://openpublishapp.com/sites/default/files/releases/openpublish-2.3-b...

2) openpublish3-alpha3.zip (12189049 bytes)
-Based on Drupal 7
-Promoted by Phase2 Technology (OP v3 Alfa3)
-Downloaded from: http://openpublishapp.com/download

3) openpublish-2.3-build432.zip (17084775 bytes)
-Based on Drupal 6
-Downloaded from: http://openpublishapp.com/sites/default/files/releases/openpublish-2.3-b...

4) openpublish-7.x-1.0-alpha3.tar.gz (137285 bytes)
-Based on Drupal 7
-Promoted by DRUPAL community (OP v3 Alfa3)
-Downloaded from: http://drupal.org/project/openpublish

I have tested with "openpublish-2.3-build441.zip" and "openpublish3-alpha3.zip", both installed in a dedicated server with all requirements satisfied.

NOTES ABOUT MY TESTES:

1) With the first one "openpublish-2.3-build441.zip", based on drupal 6, everything was fine until I went to administration menu and suddenly a huge and horrible message appear saying:

"user warning: Got a packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet' bytes query: UPDATE cache_update SET data = 'a:71:{s:5:\"admin\";a:23:{s:4:\"name\";s:5:\"admin\";s:4:\"info\";a:6:{s:4:\"name\";s:5:\"Admin\";s:7:\"package\";s:14:\"Administration\";s:7:\"version\";s:7:\"6.x-2.0\";s:7:\"project\";s:5:\"admin...""

So I decided to Update everything (modules and drupal core). I took me more than 2 hours to do it in the formal way (backing up data, disabling themes and modules, updating the core, updating database , enabliing mod and core again). The result was a clean drupal 6.22 with all modules updated. OpenPublish is working good but horrible message is still present. DOES SOMEONE HAD and SOLVE THIS ISSUE?

2) With second one "openpublish3-alpha3.zip", based on drupal 7, everything was fine too and responsive theme works amazing!. The big problem (for me) is that I had to create all content (In drupal6 version, demo content is present with installation). While I was working addiong some test data like Sections, Pages, Blogs, Videos, etc. etc... the overlay BOX disappear suddenly, I clear cache and updated everything, restart server, apache and I could see Menu contents again. Could it be a bug? DOES SOMEONE HAD and SOLVE THIS ISSUE?

Conclusion: OpenPublic is not working for me, And I just want to test it!

overlay BOX clarification

didtmaster's picture

Just to clarify my definition of overlay BOX

I mean, Overlay BOX as the Modal window over the top of the content. It's similar to a popup window by shading the background behind it.

The issue with alfa3 (D7) is related with content disappearing of this kind of window.

regardless of "BOX", that

regardless of "BOX", that error is caused by Mysql.

Thanks! it worked

Hadi,

With that change in my mysql, message is gone! (But I have a doubt, in this dedicated server I installed other 6 drupal profiles without problems, so OP needs more resources than usual?

Do you know if updating modules and drupal core, OP works completly? I did a test and some menus from demo content disappear. I have not tested widely yet.

thank Hadi for the mysql tip!

OP in D6 is resource heavy

MacRonin's picture

From what I have read, OpenPublish under Drupal 6 is a very resource heavy application. That is why they are doing such a big redesign of the OP core for D7.

OP has a few 'expensive' sql

Hadi Farnoud's picture

OP has a few 'expensive' sql queries in its nature. I suggest you replace drupal core with PressFlow.

I wouldn't recommend updating all the modules. Just update security releases. Some modules may change their functionality and it breaks other dependant modules.

stick to the latest OP version and update for security fixes only.

Hiya, When recommending

Hiya,

When recommending something like this, which is really very important advice:

I suggest you replace drupal core with PressFlow.

It would be really useful to include a link to documentation describing what you recommend. Thanks.

Pressflow is a distribution

Pressflow is a distribution of Drupal with integrated performance, scalability, availability, and testing enhancements.

you don't need to take any extra steps. Just replace the core with pressflow. It's 100% compatible with Drupal 6.

btw, Google is your friend.

Don't be like that. It's rude.

We all use Google a lot to track down problems.

When people here write for help, they would like help, not cryptic clues that they have to track down with Google.

I know you're busy. I'm just asking that you please take that extra minute to make sure that the help is useful.

p.s. I went to PressFlow, followed the documentation link, and got this:

which kind of makes my point. Where in all of this would I start?
