Welcome to all newbs.
First issue: g.d.o group has 206 members less than 2 weeks after it started.... Great news.
--mfer-- there has been work on getting together a budget (even if we can't get money from the drupal association)
STYLE MANUAL & PATTERN LIBRARY
--mortendk-- mfer: and we have at least 2 themes that are build around minimum of classes etc :P
drupal.org/project/moshpit & drupal.org/project/htmlzero
cleverclevergirl-- can we talk a bit about what the difference is between the style manual and the pattern library?
--claudio_-- the style manual is specific t CSS and the namespace
--jrefano-- namespace is key
cleverclevergirl-- I can have some wireframes up tomorrow to show what I'm thinking for the patterns
cleverclevergirl-- it doesn't really fit anywhere in the current org of D.O
--mfer-- there is a group doing the d.o redesign.....
--EclipseGc-- mortendk: is this your list/
--EclipseGc-- ?
--mfer-- and a group that handles the infrastructure... where things go....
--mortendk-- EclipseGc: which list ?
--EclipseGc-- mortendk: http://groups.drupal.org/node/20276
--Druplicon-- http://groups.drupal.org/node/20276 =-- so this is whats wrong with Theming in drupal 6 =-- 2 IRC mentions
--mfer-- we need to talk to them to make sure it fits into the puzzle... get's the right home... etc
--cleverclevergirl-- yeah - so let's make a note to get that in there
--mfer-- I'll take on talking to the infrastructure people about this... you can put my name next to that task
--cleverclevergirl-- and I'll submit the wireframes for it - views and a couple of content types and it should be rather functional
--mfer-- cleverclevergirl: can you submit the wireframes to a page on g.d.o so I can point the infrastructure people to them
--mfer-- thanks
TRAINING
Rob_Feature put out a videocast on how to use CVS: http://mustardseedmedia.com/podcast/episode28.
Rob gets a medal.
--mortendk-- also we collected a bunch of tools here : http://groups.drupal.org/node/20011
--mfer-- There is a theme handbook written by devs. It could/should be reworked for designers/themers
mfer-- I'm almost wondering if we don't start with a new handbook and write if from the ground up
--JohnAlbin-- mfer: I'm already on it. :-)
--JohnAlbin-- mfer: that's what the theming tutorial will be.
--mfer-- JohnAlbin: perfect!
mortendk-- JohnAlbin: sweeeet :)
Drupal Showcase
--mfer-- has there been anything done here?
--jrefano-- we met on it
--jrefano-- we've got some tasks and we plan on having something for next week's full group meetup
--claudio_-- we're trying to figure out if there's overlap with other stuf goin on
--mfer-- jrefano: cool... then we can move one.. the item is tabled so to speak
PR
http://groups.drupal.org/node/20101
--claudio_-- ccg, you came in last week. Would you be able to help on PR?
--claudio_-- more like getting us introductions or gettin some good talent to speak?
--cleverclevergirl-- yeah - what are the goals with the PR
--cleverclevergirl-- might be able to get a couple of really fantastic designers out for the Boston Camp
cleverclevergirl-- and get them spreading the word in the design community
--cleverclevergirl-- I mean, I'm all for good PR, but I need to know what message we're trying to get out there
--mortendk-- our stuff
--claudio_-- ccg i think there's a wiki page
--cleverclevergirl-- what the goals are
--cleverclevergirl-- if we're talking about getting talent and speakers, that's more outreach IMO
--mfer-- How about this... can some take a task to start a discussion on g.d.o about this and we can hash that out over the next week?
--canarymason-- i think the showcase should be what we push for before we really push pr
--mortendk-- goals: 1. up get the theming engine up to speed withe the html snobs
--mfer-- Anyone willing to start that discussion? mortendk?
--cleverclevergirl-- I worry we're getting a little scattered with the goals - I mean, top priority is improving quality of front-end code for Drupal and making it friendlier to designers, right?
--mortendk-- il create a wiki page of my goals ;)
--mortendk-- then other can set me straight?
--mortendk-- cleverclevergirl: yeah spot on!
--mfer-- and we can organize them into short term and long term
maybe short term we get the drupal act together and long term we work on outreach
--mortendk-- mfer: im on it gonna write it tonight (and now that i havent made the promised manifest )
ADDLSUN REQUEST
--mfer-- add1son came to us with a request... a way to give make and make an influencial person happy
--mfer-- The documentation team is looking for a logo
--mfer-- http://groups.drupal.org/node/19964
--mfer-- if one or more of you can come up with something they would really appreciate it
mfer-- if you post it to http://groups.drupal.org/node/19964 she will see it
THEMES
--mfer-- ok, so... something big happened this week.
--mfer-- Drupal 7 now has only 2 themes. Garland and Stark. The others were removed
--mfer-- we are looking for a bunch of themes.... who knows how many will get in
--mfer-- one rule so far
--mfer-- they can't be drupal blue
--mfer-- mortendk: this is an invitation to great cool designs to turn into drupal themes
--mfer-- webchick requested the designers/themers come up with some hot themes for drupal 7
--cleverclevergirl-- I know we've talked about this a bit before, but it's a dual challenge right? We need both themes that are solid as starters
--mfer-- They don't have to be vanilla. they should look hot
--cleverclevergirl-- and others that look hot out of the box
--mortendk-- so its a reason to give the non designers and the "i just wanna have a siite that looks hot" to use it?
--mfer-- Maybe start a discussion and people start highlighting/posting designs that rock
--emmajane-- mfer, yes. that's the point though, isn't it? To attract new talent? Talking to the designer means having a conversation which means we're attracting new people to Drupal.
ADMIN DESIGN
--ksenzee-- about the admin thing - there is a definite expectation that themes will address the /admin section. I don't think that's fair to themers who want to do something non-vanilla. does anyone agree? or is everyone pretty much agreed that themes should address the /admin backend?
--JohnAlbin-- ksenzee: In contrib, its totally up to the themer. In core, we can shoe-horn some admin-acceptable styling on a theme that was designed without that in mind
JohnAlbin-- ksenzee: ie. change the layout a bit for the admin pages.
ksenzee-- JohnAlbin: it seems like a simple "admin = false" in the .info file would serve to concretize the fact that it's optional
THEME CHALLENGE
http://groups.drupal.org/node/20079 =-- Wishlist for Theme/Design Contest
--mfer-- One thing to note.... we need to be concerned with how anyone who feels they lost will react with their drupal involvement
--mfer-- That needs to be taken into account
--gusaus-- what about a design challenge similar to what they did at sxsw? http://www.cmswire.com/cms/web-cms/sxsw-web-content-management-system-sh...
--mfer-- I think we are looking for core themes and to get more designers using drupal... 2 distinct goals
--mfer-- the first has a short term goal
--claudio_-- yeah a core theme has to be an iterative process.
--mfer-- any new core themes need to be in drupal 7 by sept 1st
--JohnAlbin-- mfer: actually, no.
--JohnAlbin-- I talked to webchick and since themes aren't an API, we could add them after SEp 1. But probably not too much after.
--mfer-- ok... i'm going to speed this up... lets table the challenge conversation
EVENTS
DrupalCamp Boston: June 13-14 at MIT Tentative!
--susanmacphee-- any suggestions on how to have web presence of camp
--susanmacphee-- thinking of using d4d user group page
--mfer-- susanmacphee: live video streaming
--susanmacphee-- I'd love that, can we afford
--cleverclevergirl-- making a facebook group is a stupidly effective way of getting signups
--claudio_-- we have designfordrupal.org. You can have a subdomaun for the camp
--mfer-- susanmacphee: talk to me later :)
DrupalCamp Compenhagen May 22-24
--cleverclevergirl-- we streamed cloudcamp Seattle on it - worked great
--susanmacphee-- will use craigslist, twitter, FB, meetup etch
--susanmacphee-- thinking 2 days
--cleverclevergirl-- Susan - ping me if you want any notes on that stuff
--cleverclevergirl-- I also created a camp budget template http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pEWLy4hPUBRtTtKtpCh_vNA
--mfer-- mortendk: susanmacphee write up announcement on drupal.org... make them pretty... and we'll get them promoted to the front page
--mfer-- you can use images and the site admins can make them visible
--susanmacphee-- where do you guys think the event should live?
--susanmacphee-- anyone willing to build a site on separate domain for design camps?
--claudio_-- anyone who wants to build or admin, contact me
--susanmacphee-- anyone willing to build a site on separate domain for design camps?: nikkiana, kappaluppa, SamClayton
--claudio_-- can you shoot me and susan an email if you're volunteering?
--susanmacphee-- I believe Boston will be free
--susanmacphee-- like any camp
--cleverclevergirl-- to help people speed up build/design time
--mfer-- susanmacphee: do you have sponsors?
--susanmacphee-- mfer: not yet
--susanmacphee-- except MIT is giving space
--mfer-- susanmacphee: let us know if there is anything we can do to help
OFF TOPIC
ipwa-- it would be cool to give the color module some improvements for D7
mfer-- ipwa: http://groups.drupal.org/node/19951
