Post about Drupal sites in 2009 Webby Awards

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

So, the Herron School of Art and Design web site has been nominated for Best School/University Web site on the Webby Awards. http://pv.webbyawards.com/nominee/entry/324 And the AIGA Chicago website got an Official Honoree as well. See http://www.palantir.net/blog/webbys-love-us for the full story on those two sites.

What other Drupal sites got nominated or Honoree'd for the Webby Awards?

Once we've got a list, we should create a front page post. Voting ends April 30, so we’ve got a little time.

Full disclosure: I was the primary developer on both of those sites. :-D

Webby story written, in the queue

gdemet's picture

I went through all the official nominees to see which ones were Drupal sites and included them all in this story:
http://drupal.org/node/436948 , for which I created an issue for in the Webmasters queue and added to the home page story schedule.

The story is focused on getting folks to vote in the Webby People's Choice Awards for Drupal sites; if the community comes out in droves, hopefully we can have a really great showing and spread the word that Drupal powers some of the world's best Web sites.

I did not list all the Webby Honoree sites, like AIGA Chicago, that were built in Drupal because that would have involved going through a list of several hundred sites, and these sites aren't eligible for the main award competitions. If we do a follow-up story at some point, maybe we can list all the honorees then.

Text edits and more pictures?

Thanks, George!

I updated http://drupal.org/node/436948 to re-organize the categories to match the groupings of categories used on the ballet. I also added 2 sentences: one comparing Webby to the Oscars (emphasizing the webbies importance) and one about having 2 nominees in 1 category. George, you may want to review to make sure the voice-shift isn't noticeable (hopefully it isn't).

Kieran had asked for some screenshots of Herron in an email. But that was before we realized just how many nominees we had. Yay! I think a screenshot of each site would be way too many pictures. But the current article also lacks some graphic oomph. Do we want to have one (or a couple) images that are montages of all the nominees? Or maybe just a couple example screenshots?

I think some well-chosen screenshots/montages will get people more excited about actually going out and voting. Especially since you have to register/confirm/return to vote. :-p

Lookin' pretty good

I think the "its" should be an "it's" in the sentence you added at the end of the first paragraph, but otherwise your changes look fine to me (the post is locked right now so I can't edit it). If you or someone else wants to add some screenshots too, that's great - I was limited in what I was able to do because I don't have sufficient permission to add attachments to d.o forum posts. I do want to make sure the post gets good exposure on the front page so that enough people know to vote, so we don't want to spend too much time tweaking it, but these are really good additions. Thanks, John!

These edits have now been

These edits have now been made - JohnAlbin and I decided against including screenshots for now. This story is, as far as I can tell, now ready for home page promotion, and I've updated the webmaster's issue queue to that effect. Hopefully someone with the proper credentials can promote this soon so we can get maximum exposure for the nominated Drupal sites.
