We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

TriaDUG appears to be 100% duplicate to http://groups.drupal.org/tridug

It will be merged into that group in one week unless there is a good reason for it

Technically they do serve

Technically they do serve different areas. Tridug is Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and triaddug is Greensboro, High Point, Winston Salem which is a bit west of the first.

Yes, as mrconnerton said,

Yes, as mrconnerton said, these are two separate groups for a reason. Please do not merge them.

Duplicate Groups

These groups are totally separate. The one Tridug Group rotates meetings between Durham and Raleigh.
The TRIADUG group rotates meetings between Winston-Salem and Greensboro. The Geographic separation is 75-90 miles.

I was part of getting the TriadDUG group started ... because with gas at nearly $4/gallon and me living about two hours from Raleigh, I cannot afford to make trips to the Triangle for TriDUG meetings. Please do not merge the TriadDUG group into the TriDUG group - - the TriadDUG group serves a very important purpose in the Triad area.

Triad vs. Triangle

jwilson3's picture

I think a simple explanation of the meaning behind the two group names, will help people not from N.C. understand the subtle difference, and why they seem almost exactly the same, but are actually not, if its still not clear from previous posts.

The Triangle refers to a region of North Carolina involving three cities: Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, hence "TriDUG".

The Triad refers to a region of North Carolina involving three cities: Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point, hence "TriaDUG".

Well North Carolina is a very big state with many drupal communities. There are actually 5 user groups across the state.

thanks

How big?

Katrina B's picture

Just for comparison, how big is N.C.? It's 503 miles east to west, 187 miles north to south, encompassing 53,818 square miles -- nearly the size of all the New England states put together.

it's moot, but update the descriptions

greggles's picture

Lest we start playing "my state is bigger than yours"
* List of U.S. states and territories by area - Alaska, Texas, CA
* List of U.S. states and territories by population - Cali, Texas, NY
* Coolest state as far as I'm concerned: COLORADO.

I think one valuable lesson from this all is that the group descriptions and node bodies (that show at the top of the group page) need to be as descriptive as possible. It's a good idea to revisit those every 3 months to make sure they are as accurate and informative as possible.
