Can someone point to a good place to learn how to configure Media once it's installed?

Thanks

Media Config

Have you looked at the unofficial documentation, http://drupal.org/documentation/modules/media ?

Yes I read it but seems very confusing. I messed around with my own content type but negative.

Personally, I need something more like this http://www.ostraining.com/blog/drupal/media-field/ It is very straightforward but unfortunately it is outdated.

I was also curious why MultiMedia Assets is (deprecated) but still show as an option.

Lastly, I can't remember if Media content type was automatically created by the module (never heard of such) or if I did it myself. I need to delete it and start over.

Anyway, I'll read through again.

Thanks

@drdave17: I recently had the same problem. I was very excited about the Media module until I tried to use it. I checked out that OSTraining tutorial, as well as this is the configuration documentation on the Drupal site: http://drupal.org/node/1290480

But once configured, I tested it out with a logo. I added a logo to an article, and it worked fine. I then removed it from that article, and tried to delete the logo, and ran into this error: The file logo.jpg is in use and cannot be deleted. I researched the issue to death, as others had reported it as well, but it's still not fixed.

Concerning files, I tried to set the size of the display (see http://drupal.org/node/1399838), which didn't work either. The only one that worked was the "Original" option. Another thing I noticed with files is that even though they're listed, when you go to view them, they're not linked. They're just large icons of a file.

That's where I'm stuck with this module, and so it's unusable to me at this point. Too bad; it looks very promising.

Thanks for warning

manage file display

You need to set up the manage file display options in admin/structure/file-types.
eg, for files use the Application (multipurpose) file type. I then set 'rendered file' which displays a file icon and a link. Trouble is, this doesn't work reliably in the wysiwyg. I'm only getting it to work with a media field in the content type (although images display OK in the wysiwyg).

Support request

Well, it looks like we have further proof that the documentation needs some love.

Anyways, I'm wondering if either of you have checked into the issue queue about these roadblocks? Filing a support request will get more eyes on it, and you may find someone has already filed an issue for what you are experiencing, and if you are lucky, maybe even a patch to fix it.

Are these problems against 1.x or 2.x?

That would be great I use 1.x

Have a look here: http://drupal.org/node/911830. I'd recommend searching first. Thanks for playing along.

@mpgeek: I researched the

@mpgeek: I researched the issues first, and found several mentions of the issue at http://drupal.org/node/1240834 and http://drupal.org/node/911830, so I didn't create another issue for it. I see that there was a patch back in 2010 (http://drupal.org/node/858796), but I just downloaded this module a few days ago (version 7.x-1.1), and it's not working for me.

As far as I can tell, this is an ongoing issue.

The latest versions don't

The latest versions don't always have patches included, so maybe give the dev release a try and apply the patch and if no dice, reopen the issue with the steps to reproduce. Thats the best way to get support.

I just uninstalled 7.x-1.1

katannshaw's picture

I just uninstalled 7.x-1.1 and installed 7.x-2.x-dev per your suggestion, but the error still occurs when I try to delete that image: The file logo.jpg is in use and cannot be deleted.

Just a note, it was not only removed from the article that it was originally on, but I removed the image field all-together from that content type, and I'm still getting that error. It's not being used anywhere else, so I'm at a loss.

I'll add what I tried to the issue, and see if anything gets fixed. Thanks for the suggestion!
