Who is interested in participating in a Drupal 7 Module Development Bootcamp? We have created this as a discussion because we are still in the planning stage and would like hear more ideas. When our plans are firmed up we will post an event. So please feel free to comment.
This is what we have discussed so far. Most of this is still up for discussion and change.
Goal:
To conduct an intense course of about 10 meetings in Drupal module development. Whereas by the end of the course, a successful participant will be a competent Drupal backend developer.
Organizers:
Ron Golan
Christefano Reyes
Stewart Pringle
The hardest part is finding a time and place where it is convenient to meet.
Time and Location: 2nd and 4th Mondays at 7:00 P.M. at Droplabs
Start: Late April or early May
Book: Durpal 7 Module Development Matt Butcher, et al.
Additional Training Resources: To Build a Module, Examples Module
Each class will have a leader, a lesson plan and an assignment.
The first few classes will be lead by the organizer, but we love to have other also lead classes.
We hope to make remote participation possible
In the off-weeks we are considering having a virtual study hall one evening.

Timing
I have just purchased tickets to Santa Cruz for the weekend of the 27th and 28th. So I am hoping that the event happens in "early May" rather than "late April." But I can't dictate other people's schedules.
To everyone who's interested
To everyone who's interested in the module development boot camp, do you have a preference for the printed version or the ebook version? Is there anyone who likes the idea of having both?
Right now I'm sourcing where to get multiple hard copies of the book. Packt Publishing has a "multi-buy" option that yields 20% off. It includes the ebook, so that may be the best bet. Amazon's list price for hard copies is much lower, but they ship out of California so there's additional sales tax.
E-book
Prefer e-book. I'm about as 'hard-core' printed version as they come, but I've come to prefer e-books because:
a) they're often cheaper
b) they're easier to carry around
c) they don't take up my whole house
Drupal 7 Module Development
I would like to have a "hard" (paperbound) copy of the book. I checked that particular book out of the library but of course had to return it. I just have not got around to ordering it myself, but I would happily order through you/Drop Labs.
Sometimes hard copies come with an e-book bonus. That would also be fine with me as well . . . to carry around on my Kindle.
Great idea for this boot camp!
I will circulate this post. Ebook is fine for me!

Prerequisites?
This sounds great — I'd be interested in attending. (And I agree, I'm kind of a paper-book person myself.) What do you think someone needs to know going in? PHP?
Prerequisites
You have to know PHP, it is better if you know object oriented PHP since Drupal 7 started using objects as part of the API.
You can take a leap forward by starting to learn the Drupal 7 API (online) before the group starts.

Sorry for the delay,
Sorry for the delay, everyone. It took longer than I expected to clear the schedule for this at Droplabs, but noww we're well on our way. We have 10 books on order, and each book comes with an accompanying ebook, so everyone in the module development bootcamp can opt for either the ebook or the printed version.
I expect the books to arrive any time but there are a couple of things for our bootcamp co-leaders to work out first. We're posting a simple webform survey that's a prerequisite for joining the bootcamp and will announce it here and via Twitter (@GLADrupal). The survey will go out after everyone gets back from DrupalCon.
Is the survey form available yet?
I have heard by word of mouth that this will be on June 24 (Monday). Is that correct? How do we go about signing up and getting a copy of the book?
Not yet, but if I'm not
Not yet, but if I'm not mistaken we're opening up the application process either during tonight's Downtown Drupal meetup or almost immediately afterward.
I can say that we're kicking off our first boot camp meeting on July 8, 2013 (the 1st Tuesday in July). It turns out that Droplabs is booked on June 24th for an LA DevOps meetup.
We are now accepting
We are now accepting applications for the Module Development Boot Camp:

This page includes as much information about the boot camp as we could think of, and includes a link to the application form. If anyone has any questions, post them here and Ron, Stew and I will be happy to answer them!

Preregistration?
I'd like to "pre-register" for the module development bootcamp, if order in registering makes a difference -- I won't be able to register until at least 6/10 if registration opens up on ~6/8.
Look forward to seeing everybody in bootcamp :)
Jeff
Thanks for the enthusiasm!
Thanks for the enthusiasm! There isn't any "pre-registration" for the boot camp, I'm afraid. Everyone has a few weeks to apply along with everyone else. :)
Application status
When will the status of applications be revealed?
Shortly After July First
Hi Tony
The last day to apply is July First. I believe the plan is to review the applications and notify the applicants as soon as possible after the first.
Perfect
Thanks for the info Stewart.
start date -- and hours?
2nd and 4th Mondays are 7/8 and 7/22. I have a electronic copy of the Module book, and a library copy (which I have been working through), but it would be nice to have one of my own before the class if possible. Provided that I am in.
What is the start date?
By the way Irvine Drupal Camp is the second weekend of July -- 7/12-7/14. For planning purposes, I hope that the Module course 7/8 and 7/22 date calculations are correct. 7/14 is right after the Irvine Drupal camp.
Hi pkosenko
Hi pkosenko
Yes the first day of class is July 8th and the second is July 22nd. http://droplabs.net/modbootcamp
And Drupal Camp L.A. is in the middle. End to End Drupal Fun.

We will be reviewing and notifying the applicants shortly after July 1st. Depending on logistics we might be able to hook you up with a book after the 1st. But I think the plan was to distribute the books the first night of class.
thanks
Thanks. That clarifies. I imagine that some people might be returning from the camp on Monday. So an evening meeting makes everything fit more easily.
Not critical that there is no book before the first class.
Also . . . I go to the westside Drupal meeting the second Tuesday evening. So that could end up being almost a whole week of straight Drupal.
4th of July
Any news?
Tonight we had a meeting and
Tonight we had a meeting and went through the applications we've received so far. Everyone who has applied to date will hear from us in the next couple days.
For some reason the number of applications we've received is lower than what we were expecting, so we're extending the deadline for applications to Wednesday, July 16th. This means that the boot camp will kick off on July 22nd instead of July 8th.
thanks
Thanks for the update. See you in Irvine. And at Stauffer on Tuesday.
