Is there a list anywhere on Drupal.org that someone can go look up experienced Drupal design groups to submit RFPs to?
Specifically, is there, or could there be a list that outlines the groups by specialties, size of projects, etc. Enough demographics that someone looking for Drupal specialists in the area to hire could make informed contacts to the firms that seem to best match the need?
I've worked with lots of folks before and can't ever seem to find a designer or agency that has anything more than brochure website experience and it causes all sorts of headaches for the short and long hauls.

Drupal Marketplace
I think this is what you're looking for: https://drupal.org/drupal-services/all
Cheers!

But not quite... it's a start, but it would be really nice to have something with more granular demographics including geography (or am I missing the link to click to narrow to just Denver/Boulder/COS design/development agencies who specialize in multisite, mobile first responsive sites and who have a strong portfolio of large dynamic scaling web sites). I know, that's a little much, but what a great resource that would be. Am I missing something about the link above?
Hi Craig
The marketplace does only filter down to country and I'm not aware of a services directory specific to Colorado, but I do think the following is a great start to the list of Denver drupal development agencies:

There's a whole wiki devoted
There's a whole wiki devoted to the topic: Colorado Drupal Agencies.
Maybe that should get added to the "mission" of the group to raise its visibility?
The list of sponsors of Drupalcamp Colorado is also a good place to find locally-interested Drupal companies.

Wiki pages page
I like the idea of raising visibility of resources like that, but I have some concerns about raising the visibility of that specific page alone, since it's promoting the larger agencies in the state who are already very prominent. Since most of our group organizers work for the agencies on that list (and I believe all did at least once), I think it's worth being especially cautious of anything that might unintentionally privilege ourselves.
It would be awesome if someone started a similar list of the many great independent freelancers in Colorado. Beyond adding a bit of balance, I'd like to use such a list to make referrals on smaller contracts.
Meanwhile, I added a page to the group that lists all our wiki pages, including that one:

Great point. There are some
Great point.
There are some freelancers on the page already and the page is just called 'service providers' so freeelancers are welcome to add themselves. Maybe we could make it more explicit that freelancers should be there and segment the page into "Agencies and Freelancers" to make it more clear that freelancers are welcome?

+1
I like the idea of segmenting the existing page and having everything in one place. I'll try to do that myself soon if no one else gets to it first. There's a lot of company-specific language in the introduction that should also be updated. With that change, I'm also +1 on linking it from the group description.
