The next DC Drupal meetup will be on Monday, November 16, at 7:00 pm at Stetson's Bar and Grill. We're breaking slightly from our standard format and instead will have two three 10 minute presentations:
-
Dave Cole and Macon Phillips from the White House New Media Team will discuss the new WhiteHouse.gov platform, which was recently rolled out on Drupal.
-
Alex Barth will demo the new Managing News, a fully open source news and data aggregator built on Drupal, and talk about some ways it's being used.
-
Jeff Walpole of Phase2 Technology will discuss OpenPublish and how this distribution is being used by publishers to launch high traffic websites
Also, we have a FREE ticket to raffle off to next month's Do It With Drupal conference - a three day, multi-level Drupal training event put on by Lullabot, who are great Drupal trainers. To enter the raffle, RSVP with "diwd" in the comments on this thread and come to the meetup. We'll print out the names of everyone who leaves a comment, put them all in a hat, and pull a winner at the meetup.
Hope to see you there!

Sounds like a great time for my first meetup!
I've just recently become active in the Drupal community and was looking forward to my first local meetup. It sounds like I have good timing! =)
Can't wait to meet you all,

Looking forward to it. Just got sprung from Proprietary CMS Hell
If I'm not up at Web 2.0 in NYC on the 16th, I'll definitely be there. Really looking forward to the WhiteHouse.gov presentation and the Managing News one.
Btw - I did some interviews at the Adaptive Path UX Intensive workshop you can find on TechRevu (http://www.techrevu.com/index.php?Topic=web).
Also, I just got clear of a gig with a shop working with a proprietary CMS, I'm looking for a development shop that works with Drupal (and maybe Joomla) to do Strategy/IA/UX with.

did I mention: diwd?
and here I thought...
diwd was some sort of spambot.
Anyway, I'll be making the trek down for this. Looking forward to it!

That diwd, the diwd in the title of this post, and any future diwd I might post are not meant as an entry into the raffle. I'm thinking I already sufficiently do it, almost solely with drupal, and despite my love for Nawleans, I'd hate to take a ticket from someone who needs to up their quotient of doing it (preferably with Drupal).

Not gonna make it
Sorry to miss it!
On another note: did anyone else notice that the DC group grew to "666" members on the very day that the Obama Administration presented to the community? Coincidence? I think not.

So, this will be my first time at a drupal meetup and I am looking forward to it.
What is the cross-pollination between the DC and Northern VA groups (I am actually in VA)?
Cheers,
