Western Colorado meetup followup from 11/10/09

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

It was a great time and great conversations.

Next meetup we're planning on somewhere in Grand Junction, hopefully we can find a place with a projector and have a presentation. A D7 update by Randy Fay was mentioned, but any other ideas or topic people would like to hear about we should all discuss.

Also, please put your photo with your user so we can all put faces with names! :D

I've uploaded some photos from the meetup to Flickr and added them to the Drupal Flickr group - check 'em out!

Only local images are allowed.

Good times at the Pourhouse

Thanks to everyone who attended. A couple of people asked about the UML book we were discussing. It's UML Requirements in Context by Eamonn Guiney (http://www.amazon.com/Use-Cases-Requirements-Context-2nd/dp/0321154983/r...)

I'll throw together a .csv of the group shortly and post.

I've sent a message to groups to see if we can get the Western Colorado group published! I'll also make sirkitree an admin since we're going to be merging.

Again, so nice to have met our new faces and to see those I already know.

Regards,

Seth

The Western Colorado group hasn't been approved!

I see why we couldn't find it. There's a yellow banner across the top of http://groups.drupal.org/western-colorado that says:

The post has been submitted for moderation and won't be listed publicly until it has been approved

Tentatively

We're looking at 11/10 - I'm still unfamiliar with most of the venues and such around Grand Junction, but I did hook up with someone who has a projector and would be willing to bring it for presentation purposes. I'll ask him today if he has a line on a place that would be good for us as well.

11/10 meetup

So, it looks like I'm leaving town sooner than expected and I'm not going to be around on the 10th after all - really sorry, but situations demand it.

A friend I met on twitter @HelpMeRick offered to come and to bring a projector. I'm going to let him know that someone from the group will be contacting him, so please do. We were also thinking of doing it at Trader's Coffee and Tea, as they have a small conference room I guess that would work.

That's really all the information I have, and I hope it works out alright. Sorry to abandon this lovely town and great people, but I gots ta keep movin'...

I hope I've at least stirred things up a little! :D

Wondering if we should meet again in Carbondale?

sethlbrown's picture

Team,

If Randy is going to be the only one attending from GJ, I was wondering if we could perhaps meet in Carbondale. I'd be hopeful that David might let us use the conference room at Blue Tent, or Ned might be willing to host at his offices. We could take care of equipment. Ned proposed doing either something on Advanced Views Integration or Integrating 3rd Party Data (good Acquia session on that today, btw), and Randy had mentioned his desire to do a Drupal 7 walk-through for the group. Let's still shoot for 12/10, but maybe here in Carbondale?

Thoughts?

We can certainly use the

We can certainly use the Lucks Digital offices. Both the 10th or the 17th would work for me.

I'm wondering what people might be interested in with regard to presentations. Some topics that I could put together something for would be:

  • Systems Integration with Drupal
    -- External authentication.
    -- Connecting to external databases.
-- Automating access to external content with Views 2 and nodeapi.

  • Web Services Integration w/Drupal
    -- Overview
-- Scheduled import of web service data.
-- Integration of web service logic.
    -- Optimizing web service communications.

  • Advanced Views (using views and 3rd party data to create advanced application interfaces)

  • Client Training and Tools for Content Management
-- Building training time into project schedules.
-- Building client-specific content management views.
-- Building client-specific task menus and support documentation.

I am open to suggestions as well if people have particular areas of interest. I've done a lot of work in Drupal 5 and 6, but haven't put together presentations in the past. I'd be willing to talk about whatever people are interested... from the complex to the mundane and anywhere in between.

Very nice list of topics,

Very nice list of topics, onelittleant. I'm very interested in all of them. The topics that are most relevant to my immediate tasks are probably the "Client Training and Tools for Content Management" section. My attention also really gravitates to your "Automating access to external content with Views 2 and nodeapi." I say pick whatever you would like to talk about, and I'll be all ears for sure.

It's a long drive up there!

I'm not sure I'll be able to make it up there, but you guys are right to have it there if you're the primary attendees. I'll miss seeing you though!

Hate to leave you out in the

Hate to leave you out in the cold Randy. Your unique perspective will be missed.

We will do GJ. We'll start a thread on a Jan. meetup shortly. I'd like to see us drag in some folks from T-Ride, Montrose, Delta, etc... if they're out there...
