sugarcrm is open-source

thierry.beeckmans's picture

I like the fact that SugarCRM has also an open source packet.
Because of that it's used wide spread by many people/organisations, who don't want/can't spend a lot of money to the paying packets.
The integration with drupal would be a fabulous combination for those people, becouse of the open-source'ness.

I don't bother if there would be a module to work with civic/salesforce/... but I need the sugar-one, started developing but not yet in the SOAP-way and it doesn't have the abilities the mambo-plugin has (therefore I would like contributions). First I'm going to make it work with the SOAP-way and then I'll upload the module.

greets

Great project and would love to see this materialise.

I'm currently in the process of re-designing my companies I.T. systems from the bottom up.

I have decided drupal will be the CMS I will be using for all the obvious reasons .. :)

I am also going to be using Salesforce as our CRM solution.

Salesforce offers all the features i need from a Sales/Marketing and Customer Support prospective.

CiviCRM is good but it not geared toward a commercial service.

SugarCRM is ok but lacking the quality 3rd party integration Salesforce seems to offer.

Salesforce has an excellent API and allows 3rd parties to interact with it using what it calls AppExchange

The advantage of using a powerful CRM solution in conjunction with Drupal is huge.

When a user creates an account on the Drupal website this information will also go into the Salesforce DB.

From then on you can use Salesforce and the 1 central DB to drive the business. I will be using salesforce and its add ons for all contact with clients, customers and users.

I'm the process of hiring a full-time php/drupal developer at the moment .. if anyone is interested please get in touch. Any work my company does on this integration I will be happy to release back to the community.

SugarCRM SOAP API

thierry.beeckmans's picture

I must correct you, sugarcrm also offers 3rd party integration, just like salesforce offer.
I don't know if you still have a sugar-crm installed for testing purposes, otherwise I would recommend to check out http://demo.sugarondemand.com/sugarcrm/soap.php and http://demo.sugarondemand.com/sugarcrm/soap.php?wsdl
There you will see the functions that are available through soap.
I plan to use those in order to make a sugarcrm-drupal connection. But unfortually I suffer lack of time.

Both are Great CRM Solutions

acronym's picture

Over the last several days i have been extensively reviewing both SugarCRM and SalesForce. Both are great... but... they are like shoes, some fit better than others depending on the foot [sorry for that really lame analogy]. I was going over a small pros and cons list i put together for each and found that depending on the needs of the end user one CMRs Negative is anothers Positive. Judging by what i have seen... Both will be able to interface with Drupal very well...

So to stem a possible never ending debate over which CMR is best... I think the focus of this group should be on methodologies, frameworks and generalized implementation which will work across the spectrum. And to share those ideas with as many people as possible. Truthfully... I want is best for the drupal community at large, and that is for many CRM integration solutions [that work well]. I would be very happy that if at least this group is able to spawn two separate integration strategies for both SugarCRM and SalesForce (civicrm seems pretty well integrated). Just because one person/organization is working on one system, doesn't mean that many of the underline principles can't be carried to other solutions.

I myself use SugarCRM. I

bonaparte's picture

I myself use SugarCRM. I also use other web based software tools. I would rather like to see a Drupal CRM module that is comparable to SugarCRM and other leading CRM software available in the market. Having every web based tool tied to one single software would be great, IMO. My vision is to integrate the following to Drupal
1. Website
2. eCommerce
3. CRM
4. ERP - product management, billing, payroll, vendor management, etc
5. Reporting

A business owner or a manager would like to see graphical reports of every department of the organization. Is it a good idea to integrate these into one bunch of modules? Wouldn't it be nice to remove the dependency on other software like SugarCRM?

vtiger is really opensource

Macronomicus's picture

vTiger does not hold back all the really useful features in hopes that you will buy a licensed version.

I am looking into integrating with ProgressCRM

Nis Jørgensen's picture

... which is a Contact (not Customer) Relationship Management system - focused on the needs of non-profits. It is not Open Source, and already has a quite elaborate SOAP interface.

Not sure whether this would fall into the "Enterprise CRM" category.

sugar is my option

ilo's picture

I've using and installing sugar for too many customers and have very few issues about their use and options, so I fill confident with it. I haven't used any other OS crm so I'm not able to compare.
Also I'll start publishing some work in the form of a module soon: sugarondrupal is in cvs now.

Salesforce

ceege111's picture

So far all my clients have wanted salesforce. I'd like to learn more about sugar but haven't had any chance to learn anything about it.

Database Driven?

elmobile's picture

Our client moved from Salesforce to Sugar CE for better controllability and pricing.

Recently we observed the Microsoft Dynamics / CRM gaining tractions because some IT opt to maintain one database environment across ERP, CRM, etc. And there is one-time free data migration to SQL offered by some MS CRM vendors.

Just FYI.

Customer relationship management (CRM) consists of the processes a company uses to track and organize its contacts with its current and prospective customers. CRM software is used to support these processes; information about customers and customer interactions can be entered, stored and accessed by employees in different company departments. Typical CRM goals are to improve services provided to customers, and to use customer contact information for targeted marketing.

Salesforce easily integrated into Drupal???

mikeymike-gdo's picture

I head a non-profit with a Drupal Site. We want to integrate a new CRM and internal staff operations solutions (such as online collaboration, group calendars, central file repository, project management – basically most stuff to run our internal operations).

We’ve started off looking at CiviCRM, but have heard it is very difficult to customize, so might not be great long-term solution.
My bro is longtime Salesforce employee and strongly suggests we use Salesforce as our CRM and internal ops solution. His biggest question is the Drupal-Salesforce integration. My question is if you think it remains a big hurdle or not. I want to have as seamless a connection between my site and CRM (and other apps) as possible.

In head to head, Salesforce seems a better solution for our long-term needs than CiviCRM, not taking integration into account. If Salesforce easily and fully integrateable, that's way i'd like to go. But is it???

Also whether your Salesforce module for Drupal will be supported/maintained going forward. I’m not clear on the level of demand for it.

So big picture, my question is whether to go with easy, seamless integration of CiviCRM, but not get as robust and extensible of functionality. Or to go with Salesforce, and risk integration headaches forevermore. Or something else???
I’d be grateful for any insight.

I've integrated Salesforce

ceege111's picture

I've integrated Salesforce and it went OK...the module is fairly good. But all I did with it was have the web2lead form go into salesforce.

What I would do if going in "clean" like this is install civiCRM and see how it is, because if it hits your needs and you can manage it it would be a smoother thing overall (not to mention cheaper). It's never going to have all the features salesforce does, but if it does what you need that's good. Then I would have a look at the SugarCRM solution.

If you do decide to go Salesforce, pay attention to the upgrade plan for the salesforce module. Salesforce certainly is powerful and I have never met anyone, non-technical people especially, who are not happy with it.

I m trying to achieve the web

SaltOS

mbria's picture

We always work with free (GPL) projects.
Although is very integrated in Drupal, Sugar is very heavy for us (slow and too much options), so now we are taking a look to SaltOS (a kind of SugarCRM fork): http://www.phpkode.com/projects/item/saltos/

Any body else tested this soft?

Open Source CRM

gwshepard's picture

Not sure if this is a place to post this thought, but has anyone tried to integrate other CRM's using open source middle-ware?

latest CiviCRM for non-profit

elmobile's picture

For non-profits, latest CiviCRM seemed very helpful.
The integration is seamless and we like their DB design comparing to other Open Source CRM's.

We've done migration from commercial CRM to CiviCRM with Drupal.
And the fund raising with multi-language support from Drupal helped the international, high-traffic Drupal site of the non-profit a lot.

It might be worth checking out the latest CiviCRM site for more info.
