I was wondering if anyone has tried out Digitalocean.com for hosting. They have pricing starting at $5.00 for SSD drive VPS. I'm going to give them a try and was wondering if anyone has sites hosted with them.

Yes, I moved a Drupal 7 site to DigitalOcean just last night.
I think they're pretty good. Last month I used them for a pure Symfony application and it worked well.
Here's the site if speed as an anonymous user means anything. http://www.pinehill.org . That's on a $10 per month 1GB memory "droplet" but I've previously run D7 on 512 MB quite successfully.
DNS might still be propagating. If you ping it and see an IP address starting with 162 then that's DigitalOcean. If it's 50 dot something then that's BlueHost which I'm moving away from. It should be more certain tommorrow.
They're obviously competing with Linode which I've also used. Linode is absolutely superb and DigitalOcean is not as mature yet but ... I haven't had any problems and at half the price of Linode, it's a pretty good deal. I just hope they're making enough money to stay in business.

I've moved mine to Digital Ocean
I am running http://eporama.com on a 512M drop at Digital Ocean. It's not much memory, so you have to do a little configuring of mysql/mariadb especially since I'm also running the site behind Varnish on the same box. So if you don't mind, it's a great VPS.

Don't forget that it's a VPS and you have to manage the server.
You might try a specialized service like cruiskeenconsulting.com who have shared plans for close to the same price as Digital Ocean only you don't have to worry whether someone's trying to use your server as a spam depot.

cruiskeenconsulting.com has VPSes starting at $29.95 and has a Drupal maintenance option for $50 per quarter that includes one hour of Drupal consulting per month. Quite a bargain for small sites.

Thanks for the feed back, I'm definitely going to give them a try. I was in the process of moving my sites from A2 hosting regular service to their SSD servers. I was installing Drupal on the SSD and it was taking for ever for the site to install then the SQl errors popped up. I started looking for a replacement hosting when I came across digitalocean.com would rather be on VPS than shared hosting anyway.

5 site multisite on nginx
I have a multisight setup with 5 sites on one server with only 512mb's of ram. They are small sites and I am still building them out but they are running fine. All domains have wildcarded subs with the domain access module handling potential redirects.
I used Ubuntu 13 and setup nginx, php 5.5 with opcode cache, mariadb and drush for drupal administration. I installed postfix as well to handle outgoing email and reject attempts at email hijacking. No email is hosted on the server (which I do not recommend).
I am not using DigitalOceans dns as I found that slowed the lookup just a little. I just created A records directly on Godaddy to the ip address of the server.
The only site that gets any traffic is the site I built for my homeowners association but the page load times with caching is still less than 1 second with an average of 50mb's of ram still available and cpu usage is reasonable as well.
Believe it or not this is in a community of lot's of Microsoft and other tech employees directly across the lake from the Microsoft main campus.
The first site was in asp.net on IIS and it was just too much of a resource hog.
Now I am adding node.js functionality as well for live communications (which cannot be done on a shared server) and cannot as yet see any change in resource usage.
Take a few days to learn the command line in Linux and Drush. You'll be glad you did.

As an alternative you can try use Wodby (https://wodby.com). It works like that: you connect your DigitalOcean account and Wodby creates CoreOS droplet and install docker infrastructure on it. Then you deploy your Drupal website in a click from the Wodby dashboard, every drupal website has integration with varnish and redis out of the box
