File Management - Drupal 6

I am looking for a good module or group of modules that work well for file management.
I want for it to be super easy to use, somewhat like browser view of ftp, easy to upload files, rename, drag/drop into directories, create directories, etc.
I also want to be able to assign terms to / tag file uploads.

I found this post comparing a bunch of different solutions:
http://groups.drupal.org/node/20291

Just curious what people have used and/or what you can suggest.

thanks!
andrea

DrupalCamp Venue

As Amye noted on the wiki, we're in search of a new venue for DrupalCamp. Anyone pursuing a venue for the camp, please tell us about it here.

I thought it might be a little easier than trying to track the Wiki page. I also added the ability to tag discussions, polls, etc. with topics to help us in organizing. I'm still exploring what I can do with this site, but using the topics should let us subscribe to feeds in the areas we're helping with. People should be able to subscribe or unsubscribe for e-mail notifications, too. Note the DrupalCamp tab at the top of the page so we won't have to scroll and search for all things DrupalCamp planning related.

Drupal jobs on the rise

As posted by Dries today, indeed.com tell us that Drupal jobs are on the rise and are outpacing Joomla and Wordpress by a massive margin. Yes, you are indeed in the right user group. This highlights why a DrupalCamp is so badly needed. Remember that we will be discussing holding a future DrupalCamp tomorrow night at the monthly DUG meet-up.

Two nodes at the same time - need creative suggestion

Hi all,

I've got a situation with nodes (ubercart products) and I need to connect them to manufacturer information. Since one mfr could apply to many products, the normal answer would be a different CCK content type and a node reference field in the product node. But my client prefers to see both the product and mfr info on the same edit form, with the ability to search existing mfr info during node creation, and then fill those fields with the found info. Which means editing two nodes of different content types on the same node edit page!

DrupalCamp 2009... maybe 2010

So, as many of you know, we had a plan for an August DrupalCamp at CubeSpace. CubeSpace was an ideal setting, in terms of locality, parking, space, flexibility, catering and more. Sadly, CubeSpace is no more, having recently gone out of business. They will really be missed by the Portland open source community. It also means out plans are totally scuppered.

Theming with 960 Grid - Banner Ads

There seems to be a trend towards using 960 systems grid when theming. I've been designing a site using this system. One concern I have is that most standard banner ad sizes do not fit elegantly within this grid. Has anyone built a commercial site with the system and added banners in sizes like 728x90, 120 x 240, 300 x 250, etc. Is there another grid system that works better? Thanks.

Be Awesome. Be a Black Tonic Beta Tester.

We've been working on a new app and just opened up the process to beta testers. It's a real-time web presentation tool - allows a presenter to control display of images via URL. Really simple. Really effective.

And it's built with drupal.

Distinct Comment Permission Settings per Content Type - Anyone?

Ah, comments module. How it keeps us up at night.

So we're trying to find a hack solution in order to:
1) Set Forum Topic create comments permissions to be "authenticated" user
2) Set all other create comments permissions to be "anonymous" user

Any suggestions? Priorities are speed and efficiency vs. "the right way". So maybe a good 'ol display:none ;)

Thanks,
David

Questions on Theming: Build your own or use an existing theme?

I have just finished my first drupal site and I just need some clarification and input about building themes.

In the site I just built, I used the Zen theme. It worked totally fine for me as far as i can tell. If anything, i feel like it included a lot i did not use and i deleted a lot of the code that i thought was extraneous.

At the DUG meeting last week, someone did a lighting round on building your own theme.

I am just curious, what do most people making professional sites for clients use? Do you use an existing theme or do you build your own?

Creating an Editable Allowed values list using CCK

Hi everyone,

i am looking for the best way to set up an editable amenities list using CCK.

i have a content type called Accommodations in which the admin will fill in a bunch of data to create hotel listings.

The client wants to have an amenities list that they can check the applicable amenities for the listing and then add notes to any individual amenity.

input filter for external a links

I'm looking for a contrib module that lets users put a links to external URLs into a mode using some basic syntax such as [link:Url, text] or something like that. I've been searching the contrib nodules and am only finding such filters for nodes or img tags. I supposed I could write my own, but it seems hard to believe that such a module is not out there, but I'm not finding it.

Thanks

PDXPHP Kickoff Meeting for Open Source Bridge featuring Rasmus Lerdorf

Rasmus Lerdorf will be in town for Open Source Bridge and has graciously offered to lead a meeting for PDXPHP. So the Tuesday before the OSBridge festivities kick off, He (and possible a few other speakers in town), will lead a discussion on various PHP and web topics.
Rasmus is of course know for creating the PHP language but is also an expert in application security, and is currently employed with Yahoo as an Infrastructure Architecture Engineer, so there will be no shortage of interesting topics for this meeting.

Admin Login issues

Hi all,

I am experiencing some issues with a website I help maintain for a local non-profit based on version 5.7. When I try to login, not only can I not edit a page but I can't access Admin pages. After entering username/pw, from I get kicked back to the whatever page I was on, but still in non-edit and non-admin view. I am getting a url parameter that I have never seen before: http://www.sitename.org/?destination=admin

Any thoughts about why I would be getting this?

Thanks!

-- Jeff

July's Challenge

We're going forward with a July challenge meeting, and either Jonathan or I will post the final challenge on Monday. A lot of incredibly fun solutions have been proposed to Michelle's suggestion, and unless something more compelling comes along:

"I like the idea of a challenge! If I can suggest one that might be fun, and that probably has many ways to accomplish it: how about a Question and Answer section? Something where a user can post a question, and either a moderator or a user can post answers - but possibly the moderator answer always shows above other user answers or is somehow distinguished."

A couple of requirements:

  • Presentations must be Internet-accessible so we can use just one laptop to keep things quick.
  • To be guaranteed a time to present, make your commitment on the meeting reminder by July 6th.

If anyone has other ideas, please post them in the comments here. I'm really looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with!
