Front Page tweaking

Hi folks,

first of all, sorry for my bad english. I'm pretty new to Drupal and to Openpublish, but I think they both are powerful tools.

Well, my problem is that I would like to tweak the front page of my openpublish site to have the "Homepage Featured Article" view to overlap the "Left Sidebar" and "On Top of Content" context regions. By default, in fact this view is in the "Left Sidebar" region. BTW, I attach an image of what I have now and an image of what I'm looking for ( more or less...:P ).

Another little question: how can I remove the "Latest Headline" link over the "Homepage Featured Article" view?

I'm afraid that these two questions are not closely related only to openpublish but I'm not able to find answers to my doubts elsewere....

Thank you very much and once again, sorry for my bad english..:)

Oooook! I got it!

I solved my problem, it was pretty simple to make the tweaks I needed, but not so simple to find out...:D

The way to obtain the homepage I was looking for is to use the Drupal's module "Panels". You may say it was obviuous, but not to me.... :P

For the second question, the answer was to define another "Homepage Feature Article" block view...

I hope it will be useful for someone else...

As I'm even more 'rookie' as you, could you detail the different steps of resolution, please:

how panel was usefull for it,
what type of panel you build and how,
how do you link information to it,
etc.

Many thanks,

Thierry

Well, you're right, I've to

Well, you're right, I've to explain...

First of all there are basically 3 ways(that I found out, maybe there are more...) to obtain the homepage I would.

The solutions are:

-A) Making a Panel Page and set it as your homepage without changing the theme you are using(the openpublish theme)
-B) Making a Panel Page and set it asyour homepage after changing the theme you are using(for example with another from there:http://drupal.org/project/Themes)
-C) Modify the file: page-front.tpl.php to obtain an homepage template that meets your needs.

Well, let's start...solutions A-B are pretty simple, you can find an exausting tutorial here: http://drupal.org/node/206792. The problem(at least for me) with the A solution is that, after the creation of the home page panel I can't see anything in my home page and so the solution is pretty useless... :|
On the other hand, changing my theme and building up an homepage panel works very very fine.

BTW, the solution I finally adopted was to modify the file page-front.tpl.php. This file is located there: /sites/all/themes/openpublish_theme/page. Here you can change(more or less) the disposition of your elements in the home page. What I made was to define a new "Homepage Featured Article" view and then to place it on my homepage using a table...

Well, maybe it was not so simple....^_^
