Title:
A path to Drupal Greatness / Training for the newbie

Hello everyone,

I am new to this and I need help learning this well.

Kudos to the community, everyone is soo open and willing share guidance. The meetups are great, the sharings at Muddy are awesome!.. But let’s face it, not everyone possesses the same gifts when it comes to learning. Some people, like me, need a little hand holding to start our path to Drupal Greatness.

How / Where / When / can we have a few training classes for beginners. I’ll pay someone to teach me and help me out. I want to learn this the right way, develop the right habits and use best practices from day 1. No book, or video can give you that.

I am truly moved by the generosity of the community and surprised by how hard it is to find a training class to get started. I think this is a opportunity for someone who may want to make a few dollars. I can help recruit more people and select a book for the curriculum..

ANY TAKERS or guidance?

Thanks everyone again!!

1-day seminar in NH?

miche's picture

At the last NH Meetup, there was discussion about having a 1-day seminar (free?) on creating a site from start to finish. The course would be directed to newbies who want to learn about best practices and learn the skills required on every site. You should join the NH group too and push for it! http://groups.drupal.org/new-hampshire

Resurrecting training!

pcoste's picture

I hope this finds you well!
Did something came up of this training idea? Can we resurrect it?.. it has been soooooo hard to find training that is almost heart breaking..

I am working diligently on

I am working diligently on this. It was supposed to be at the end of this month but the venue has not given me written confirmation which leaves me no choice but to withdraw. So, now we are trying for May at another university. Follow @drupalcampnh Twitter. I will post all details there.

My schedule is not as flexible as it once was, but I am still willing.

Lullabot Videos

jjeff's picture

My company, Lullabot, has a series of Drupal training videos which you might be interested in. We often refer to them as a "workshop-in-a-box" and they're very popular. They're designed to get you up and running with Drupal fast. And each video has a free chapter available so you can preview and see if it's the type of thing you're looking for.

more than videos

pcoste's picture

Jeff, thank you for answering. Your videos are great!; like a great appetizer before the big meal.. I have 3 of them and it is because of them that I want to go a deeper. In my case, I want to learn this because I have a potential client that will purchase my services if I can deliver a decent product ( I think this is how most people start in this path ).

Are you in MA? do you do face to face training?

Shameless Plug

nancydru's picture

I am in the Boston area (Waltham) and I will be happy to do face-to-face training. I may not be the same as Lullabot (they have far more resources than I), but I am the original author of the Drupal Cookbook, if you've seen that.

Let's talk

pcoste's picture

Nancy,

When can we talk?

Nancy is a good bet

jjeff's picture

We don't really do one-on-one training -- in a cost effective manner at least. We mostly focus on larger workshops and retainer-based consulting relationships. Keep us in mind if you need help once your project is underway, but for now you're probably better off with an individual to give you some mentoring.

Good luck on your Drupal adventure! :-)

I just responded off list because I don't like posting rates on the list.

I am pretty flexible on everything (as in hungry). My biggest problem is not having a car.

My contact form should be enabled.

A path to Drupal Greatness / Training for the newbie --

pcoste's picture

Hello everyone.. And thank you for your responses..

Let’s move forward with this Training for the newbies. See 2 proposals below:

1-Learn from each other
Let’s get a public space with wireless access, big enough for 10 people and set a date to get together and “learn from each other” kind of set up. Here we can agree on WHAT training we need. since Drupal is soo big, it may not be wise to invite and pay a trainer without agreeing what will be covered in training. I will check the Newton Library for space and my company as well ( I work in the financial district )

2- Drupal in a VAN
Since some people are not from the Boston Metro area, we can agree to caravan together to NH or RI, if they are willing to host us there and have the “learn from each other” road show. (I can see the T-shirts, and the fun with this approach).

Please reply with your ideas or comments on this soon, maybe we can get together before the end of this month and get this on the way..

It's a coincidence that this training gets announced right now, but maybe it will work for you. Check this out:
