As a community, Drupal should truly give back to our winning GCI students. The students spend a lot of time on GCI and it is not easy work. GSoC students are paid to work, but GCI students compete in a contest to win a trip to Google with no money. We have previously discussed providing our two winning GCI students with some type of "Drupal Gift Bag" that would include items such as t-shirts, stickers, books, magazines, etc. Let's move forward and make this happen for our 2014 winners.
Drupal's GSoC/GCI team has a bit of funding in our bank account managed by the Drupal Association. If companies are willing to ship items to me personally, I can build the "Gift Bag" and utilize our funds to ensure students receive everything. During Drupalcon Austin I walked around gathering items to build a gift bag for the 2013 winners and it worked out fairly well. I'll be at Drupalcon Latin America in Bogota and will be more than happy to collect items for gift bag.
How to help? Share this link! Do you work for a "Drupal shop" or know someone that does? Ask if they're interested in providing a couple of t-shirts, stickers, or whatever cool Drupal related items they can provide. Not only will GCI promote the participating companies, but the winning students will know about your company (internship?).
Books? Drupal book publishers provide many free books to meetups and DrupalCamps. Can we utilize these resources to provide our winning students with books? There are so many Drupal books out these days...I'll need some help to track down all the publishers. Any volunteers?
Social Media? Should we utilize "Drupal's official social media outlets" to announce/promote our winning students?
Training videos? Any Drupal video training companies interested in providing special access to students during contest or provide winning students a free membership?
What else can we provide students? Example idea: provide each winning student a free ticket to a Drupalcon of their choice. This is a great idea as it might help retain new contributors, which is one of our goals. What about an internship program? Many Drupal companies are aware of the difficulty finding talented developers, and GSoC/GCI is providing many new contributors multiple times throughout the year.

Drupalcon Latin America
Currently at Drupalcon Latin America collecting tshirts, stickers, and various Drupal items for our gift bag to GCI 2014 winners. This is a good time to jump start this initiative and contact other Drupal related companies that might be interested in providing items in our gift bags. Goal is to deliver gift bags to students during their grand prize trip to Google HQ in June.
