Language negotiations issues for Japanese Windows

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

My site is bilingual, English/Japanese, and I have set up language negotiation to be 'Path prefix with language fallback'.

So I expect that when users go to my home page (http://www.cachekuni.com) the page will show up always in English, and if users want the page in Japanese they need to use the language switcher block.

Unfortunately it looks like is a user is on a Japanese Windows machine, the language negotiation fails. Drupal uses the language information sent by the browser to show the page in Japanese and not the default English. I'm guessing this is because for English there is no language prefix?

I happen to have some English users who are on Japanese machine and this is causing them a lot of grief.

I'm thinking of changing the language negotiation to 'path prefix' only but I have a feeling that will cause more issues than it will solve.

Any one encounter this before and have some suggestions?

Hi Totsubo, I've set the

Hi Totsubo,

I've set the "language negotation" of my bilingual sites (http://firipin.net etc.) to "Path prefix only" and so far I've found no problems with them. By the way, I'm using Windows XP Japanese version and when I checked your site it displayed English texts. So perhaps, language negotation isn't the issue? Or have you already changed your site settings?

Already changes ...

Thanks for trying to help out!

Yeah, I've changed the language negotiation settings to 'Prefix' only.

Just to test out a theory, I'll change them back. Can you have look again and let me know what you get?

I checked your site again

I checked your site again from a different computer (also having Japanese OS). It's now in Japanese!
(I also checked my site, still in English.)

Perhaps language negotiation isn't the problem? How about URL rewrite rules?

If you checked more than 10

If you checked more than 10 minutes ago, then the language negotiation was set to 'prefix with fallback', so yeah, on a Japanese machine it would show in Japanese :(

I've now set the negotiation to 'Prefix only' so that should fix it ...

Still, I thought that 'prefix with fallbacks' was a better setting to have but I do want my English users on Japanese OS's to have an English front page so maybe I have no choice.
