Account create/password request emails always in English :(

I've got a multilingual D6 site and I just noticed that when a user creates a new account or requests a new password the emails sent by the system are always in English. This even if the user's language is something else (Japanese in this case).

What's the recommended solution for getting Drupal to send out account creation and password request emails on a multilingual site?

And there's (as always) a module to workaround the issue for D6:

I was really surprised by this issue actually; I never noticed it until today. I'm trying to build a bilingual community and I can see some of my users getting pissed at receiving registration e-mails in English :)

Surprising that a module is needed to fix this and it wasn't fixed in core or i18n as it should be. Oh well ... at least there seems to be a fix!

Here's hoping D7 will be better :)

Edit: Doh! Looks like there is a second bug that needs to be kept in mind. Any changes to admin/user/settings causes all emails translations to be lost ... under admin/user/settings even when I switch to Japanese all my translations emails disappear.

Trying it out but it looks like I need to copy'n paste the translation emails into this new module, and I'm not sure where to find the .po files (if there are any) for the emails
