Taxonomy inherit in feeds

I have set up open Publish (looks great) and have created a feed that is coming in as a feed type. I set a taxonomy topic on the feed of "topic x". To do this I had to add the topic taxonomy to the "feed node content type". I also added that taxonomy to the feed-item content type.

I want the topic to be inherited by the feed items from the feed, and thought feedAPI inherit should make that possible. I have enabled it on the feed content type, but the feed-items do not have any tags. I suspect I am doing something wrong but have not been able to figure it out. I tried to get the relative weights correct.

Any ideas?
