Better structured modules list page

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hi all,

Most of us is very enthusiastic about the user experience improvements for Drupal 7. The restructure and renaming is very welcomed and I am sure it will make it much easier for newbies to get started.

There is though one area that I still see as untouched, namely the Modules list page. After installing a number of modules it is quickly becoming a bit of a chaos list, especially since a lot of modules aren't using the "package" field in the [module].info file and thus their module end up in the Other category.

Making this page better organised is actually very simple, we just need to get an official guide for module developers to follow when using the package field in their module. That's it, a single line in the .info file is all that it takes.

I have written a short Proposal: Module Category Guide for Drupal 7 post as something we could use as a start for such a guide.

Any feedback on this is welcomed. If this is of interest I can turn my proposal into a guide on d.o.

Rewritten proposal

Sometimes when I get an idea I get a little bit to excited about it and don't do the proper research. In this case I missed an important part about the guidelines for how the "package" field is supposed to be used in the .info file.

I still believe the module list is in need of a more logical grouping and have now updated my proposal post with how it can be done with no, or very little code changes.

Hey - Just skimmed through

Hey -

Just skimmed through this, and it seems like it might be good information to provide... I'm not 100% sure if it is written anywhere else or what standards exist for this at present. If there really isn't anything, I'd hazard http://drupal.org/node/206753 would be a good spot to put it, maybe create a page and link out to it from the list there.

But would definitely need to make sure this isn't documented anywhere else... and have someone more technical than myself review.

It might be worth just going ahead and opening an issue in the Docs queue http://drupal.org/node/add/project-issue/documentation if you don't get much more attention here.

Thanks!

Hi Ariane,

Thanks for your feedback. I will create an issue ticket and see what's happening.
