I want to know whether I can easily create a top-story carousel similar to the TNR.com frontpage? I've heard horror stories about previous attempts, and I'm wondering if I'd aiming too high.

I believe ViewsCarousel is already included in OP 2.0 for image galleries. We kinda, sorta like it, as much as we love anything that extends Views, because Views is the next best thing after sliced bread but... My serious beef with the module is that it has no release! Not even alpha :(
If this continues to be the case, we will probably consider removing and replacing it.
